A few months ago I bought a bottle of Paul Mitchells Lemon Sage Thickening Shampoo while I was wandering around Ulta with a friend. Not one to just buy one component of a hair care line, I also picked up the conditioner to have a matching set. This shampoo is part of the Tea Tree CARE line and is supposed to thicken the hair which appealed to me because Id like my hair to be thicker or have the appearance that it is thicker than it actually is. How they can accomplish that I have no idea but Im always willing to try to see of someone can actually deliver on that claim.
About Lemon Sage Thickening Conditioner
PaulMitchell.com states that products in the Tea Tree CARE line have refreshing properties which make them a perfect choice to rejuvenate the mind as well as body. The featured products in this are the Lemon Sage Thickening Shampoo and Conditioner and both do have a refreshing scent and feeling on the scalp. As for thickening, well I dont think they were able to live up to that claim.
Lemon Sage conditioner comes in a dark green plastic bottle with a white cap. The cap has an indent on one side that you press on and it pops open for dispensing the product. The bottle nor the website indicates what type of hair this product is best for which leaves me to assume that its for all hair types. The shampoo felt clarifying to me and left my very healthy, straight hair extremely clean and in need of an added conditioner so it may be too cleansing or clarifying for damaged hair.
Paul Mitchell Lemon Sage Thickening Conditioner comes in three sizes - 2.5 ounces, 10.14 ounces, and 33.8 ounces. I got the 10.14 ounce bottle which was $12.50 at Ulta.
My experience
After washing my hair with Paul Mitchell Lemon Sage Thickening Shampoo I was left with tangly hair that was squeaky clean so I was happy to have the matching conditioner on hand. Although extremely thick, the conditioner dispenses easily from the bottle as the plastic is soft and squishy even when there is only a small amount of conditoner left inside.
I only needed a small amount to coat the ends of my long hair. It was easy to coat my hair as the conditioner is very thick and rich and not watery whatsoever. The conditioner is pure white in color and has the same amazing lemon, herb, tea tree oil scent as the matching conditioner although it is not quite as strong as the shampoos scent.
After leaving the conditioner on my hair for about five minutes I was able to rinse it from my hair in a short period of time. My hair felt very conditioned and healthy and I was able to get a wide toothed comb through my hair quite easily. The scent of this product lingers on the hair only slightly which is disappointing as it is a scent that I would enjoy smelling throughout the day. When my hair is dry the scent is barely noticeable but my hair feels soft and healthy. I dont notice any difference in the manageability of my dry hair after using this product nor does it appear any more voluminous or thick.
Bottom Line
I love the way this product smells and that my hair looks and feels healthy and soft after using it. Im disappointed though that my hair does not look or feel thicker after having used it. I think I would buy this product again for the scent alone as Im really into heavenly scented products.
