It is summer time once again and what better time to stock up on DVD's? I already have a very impressive collection of DVD's. I often can't stand the dribble that is put on television - especially with commercials. Usually, the best place to buy DVDs is online. Lately, the best three sources for DVDs (for me) has been: Deep Discount DVD, Ebay, and Amazon - in no particular order.
I should point out, I generally do not mind if a DVD has been "previously viewed" provided that the DVD is in excellent condition and complete with case and other materials. My thinking is that I am going to use the DVD anyway, and if it does not work, I can usually get my money back or get a replacement at no charge to me.
That said, I have a systematic approach to get the best price deal. First, I will check for the DVD on Amazon.com. Usually, Amazon.com has higher prices, but they also offer buys from other dealers under the "new and used" section. Often, these dealers are DVD stores or merchants with excess supply looking to reduce inventory. I check the offers to make sure the description states the DVD is new or like new or excellent condition. I then add the price + shipping to get a total price. I then compare this offer to whatever I find on Ebay.com. Usually, I always find better deals on Amazon because Ebay dealers have expensive shipping charges tacked on. In the case of a tie, I stick with Amazon since their return policy is much better. Then I compare the total price to the price on Deep Discount DVD. I do not have to worry about shipping charges here because shipping is always free!
As I recall, Deep Discount DVD started out only selling DVDs. Now, they call themselves Deed Discount and sell CDs and posters too - all with free shipping. Often the prices are lower than what you can find in retail stores, and usually you get a better selection at Deep Discount.
I've bought hundreds of DVDs at Deep Discount! I've never had a problem with any DVD I purchased there. They ship their DVDs via media mail, which is often slow, but it gets to me. The shipment is always neatly done and very consistent, compared to what I get from ordering from Amazon or Ebay (sometimes items are shipped without packing from Amazon or Ebay sellers). Rarely do I find I overpaid when shopping in the fashion.
Deep Discount also offers many promotions. Usually during holidays, they will offer promotions offering a percentage off. Earlier this month, they had their Summer Sale and offered 20% off the price of your order plus free shipping. That was the best time to stock up on DVD's!
I already have a collection of most of my favorite movies on hand. I prefer older movies made up and through the 1980's, although every now and then a good movie will come out. So, I already pretty much own all of the movies I want to buy. However, I still have fun shopping around and sometimes I buy a movie that sounds interesting, if I get a great bargin on it. Once, Deep Discount was having a 60% off the original price sale on certain DVDs. I sorted the list of sale DVDs according to price and found several great deal DVDs that were being sold for a little over $1. And guess what? With free shipping! I stocked up on a few of the titles and gave them to friends as gifts.
The web site is very easy to use. Their search feature is probably the best search machine of any online store I ever visited! It is quick and easy to use. It returns accurate information. Likewise, checkout is very simple and easy to use. It is a secure server, so you do not need to worry about piracy. You have the option of having their server remember your details, so if you are a frequent shopper, you do not have to keep entering your address information.
I love to go to Deep Discount to just browse. They have items sorted various ways in categories (e.g., Comedy, New Releases, Famiy/Kids, etc.). They usually also always have some sort of sale going on with drastic price reductions. Before buying from any of these sales, I usually compare overall prices with other web sites, as mentioned previously. I usually come out ahead at Deep Discount due to their free shipping.
They also sell TV show collections, movie collection sets, music CDs, video games, books, posters and lots of other stuff. I've only bought DVDs and DVD sets from Deep Discount before, although they seem to have a great selection of other items. To help make selections, they offer lists of their top sellers (this could be helpful if you are gift shopping).
On the downside, Deep Discount is somewhat of an abuser of sending spam emails. For a while, usually during December, they were sending we weekly email messages advertsing their products. I had to filter out their email using my spam blocker. Ugh! Also, I find I usually always get an email message advertising a special right after I order from them. This is not a big deal to me.
I would highly recommend Deep Discount DVD. They sells lots of titles and I have never had a problem locating something I was interested in buying. With all the sales going on everywhere, it pays to price match (be sure to include shipping costs in the total price!) Their DVDs are all original genuine merchandise, as far as I can tell, so you do not have to worry about bootlegs are knockoffs. Thanks for reading my review and best wishes for a nice day!
