Pros: Some humorous parts, acceptable action scenes, doesn't get too bogged down
Cons: Bad movie physics, obvious CG effects, Matrix-like plot
The Bottom Line: If you want an average action popcorn flick, then this works. If you want something good and memorable, keep looking.

| crystalattice's Full Review: Wanted |
Like many other movies I see in a theater, I didn't know anything about this going in. I don't normally see movies in theaters because the experience is usually painful. Hence, I don't pay attention to what's coming out. In this case, I didn't even know the movie existed so I had no preconceived notions about it. I pretty much went because I had nothing better to do at the time.
The protagonist (Wesley Gibson) is an accounts manager living a dead-end life. He has the expected crappy job, his girlfriend and best friend are screwing around behind his back, and he has nothing to look forward to in life. His father abandoned him when he was a week old and yearns to find some meaning to his existence.
Enter The Fraternity. A group of assassins that claim to kill people because fate decrees it. They tell Wesley that his father was killed by a man named Cross and that he is the only one who can defeat Cross, with the proper training. So begins the main part of the movie where Wesley has training sessions much like Neo in The Matrix. Ultimately Wesley discovers the truth behind The Fraternity and works to set things right.
I didn't know Wanted was based on a comic book when I sat down. However, it was pretty obvious after the first fight and car chase scenes, simply because of how ludicrous they were.
Movie adaptations of comics and video games are the main reason I don't go to theaters anymore. This movie is a good example of that. "Bullet time" is used extensively, the cars flipping through the air are simply stupid in their physics-defying manner, and the CG animations are often glaringly obvious. For a recent movie, I expected the CG to be better than The Matrix or LOTR but it wasn't.
There are several plot holes throughout the movie and many bad movie physics examples. Granted, it was based on a comic but many people in the theater were calling BS at certain scenes.
Another problem is that the movie started out like a comedy, with some witty lines being spoken by Wesley. I expected the movie to be more like True Lies with a mix of action and comedy. Unfortunately, the comedy didn't last and the action became repetitive.
Overall, I don't necessarily regret seeing this movie but I'm upset that my money will encourage Hollywood to make more crappy films based on comics and video games. There is an over-reliance on computer animation and special effects to carry movies nowadays while good plot writing is becoming a rarity.
Wanted wasn't great but it wasn't awful either. Simply an average action movie.
