I've made photo books from Kodak, My Publisher and now Snapfish, and Snapfish is the best -- but there's a big caveat. Here's why: (these comments pertain to the 8x11 classic photo book)
1) The site is relatively simple to use. Yes, it takes time to upload all of your photos, but you'll have to do that almost anywhere. One nice feature Snapfish has is that instead of logging into the site, you can email your photos and they will be added to you account. To me, that's much easier when you want to add just one or two photos -- just make sure you're emailing high resolution photos and not small, email-ready files that won't print well.
Once you upload your photos, you can group the photos into albums. Then, select the appropriate album once you begin making the photo book, and then you simply drag and drop the photos into your photo book. You can also choose specific photos from different albums for your photo book.
2) Page layouts and options. This is where Snapfish exceeds the competition, in my opinion. They seem to have many more page layouts than Kodak, which I last used in early May. They're nicely grouped by the number of photos per page -- there are 8 layouts for 2-photo pages and about 20 for 3-photo pages. Plus, many of the layouts include room for larger photos. (a pet peeve at Kodak was that several layouts had too many photos, so that each photo was very small and you could hardly see it) There are several page background themes and photo borders to choose from. Another nice perk is that you can adjust the font size -- I could not do that with my Kodak book.
3) Competitive prices. My 8 1/2 by 11 photo book lists for about $25. This included a leather cover and 20 pages. A linen cover starts at $20. Additional pages are $1.99 per 2 pages.
4) Quality product. I'm happy with my book. The pages are a nice thickness, the photos are crisp and colorful, and the book looks great. One comment: the leather cover doesn't look or feel much different than a brown matte finish -- the only way I could tell it was leather was by smelling it -- but for the price, I can't complain, and I think it will be less likely to get dirty than a linen cover.
What I don't like:
1) They make everyone set up an account. So, if you want to share your photos with friends and family, every recipient has to set up an account just to view your photos. This can be annoying for your friends!
2) Here's the caveat: Slow shipping. Standard shipping for one photo book is $6.99. Snapfish states it should take 3-5 business days to ship (plus 3-5 days to print your book). My book took 9 business days to arrive from the shipping date, because they sent it bulk rate (media mail --slower than first class). No tracking number was provided, either. For $6.99, they could have easily sent it first class, with money left over.
