During our recent vacation I made it a point to visit Redwood National Park. After seeing the magnificent trees of Sequoia during a past vacation, I was excited to take a ride up this small section of the California coast. After spending a day in the park, we found ourselves in Crescent City looking for a hotel, after passing one up due to a lack of air conditioning we settled in at the Comfort Inn and Suites.
While its obvious that Crescent Cities Comfort Inn and Suites is an older hotel, the grounds, buildings and rooms of the hotel are well taken care of and maintained. The location of the hotel is decent, overlooking the ocean, but not really within walking distance of a beach because of the harbor. The hotel is also easy to spot, because it is located on Highway 101 which goes through the heart of town, this hotel is located at the southern edge of Crescent City along with a number of other hotels and a few nearby restaurants.
Check-In at this hotel was uneventful, quick and friendly. There parking lot is set-up in a bad manner, which requires you to walk a ways from your car to your actual room unless your at the very front of the parking lot. It wasnt extremely bad, but noticeable. As I said the hotel is also older, with outside access to the rooms. All of the rooms face into a courtyard, which includes a nice grassy area and walkways around the actual rooms. This hotel does not have a swimming pool.
Our room included a large entry way with the bathroom closed off to one side. The bathroom was clean and well taken care of. It included a tub/shower, vanity with sink, plenty of towels and a few toiletries. The entry way also has a small wardrobe with an iron and ironing board stashed inside.
The main room featured two queen beds with a nightstand in between that had both a radio alarm clock and a lamp. Each bed featured 3 pillows and clean, crisp bedding. A TV, refrigerator and microwave were in a large armoire style piece of furniture. A lowboy sit to the side of the armoire with a small coffee pot and supplies and on the opposite side was a small table with two chairs.
The rooms at this Comfort Inn and Suites can vary a bit. Those located on the 1st floor, like ours was, feature a sliding patio door to the back of the room and this opens out into a small patio and a grassy area. Rooms on the second floor have balconies and the rooms lined up at the back of the hotel have full ocean views.
Overall our room was great, it was exceptionally clean, the TV had tons of channels and best of all it was spacious.
I really liked the layout of the hotel. In the center courtyard they have an ice machine and vending machines hid under the steps to the top floors and they really maintain the grass, flowers and ornamental trees they have within the courtyard.
Other bonuses about this hotel is the fact that they do accept pets, they allow them in any 1st floor room, which is a great asset for many people.
The Comfort Inn and Suites does offer a small breakfast in the morning, but from all accounts it wasnt well taken care of. When I ventured up there in the morning most items were only half stocked, if that. Their breakfast included donuts, waffle batter and waffle irons, cereals, muffins and the like. They also had juice, coffee and milk to drink.
This hotel doesnt really offer much in the way of amenities. Aside from the continental breakfast, a free newspaper and a guest laundry this hotel is pretty slim in the creature comforts department.
Overall we had an uneventful, but pleasant stay at the hotel. Based on the age of the hotel I was very surprised at how well it has been taken care of. This hotel is something I can easily recommend to anyone who finds themselves in Crescent City, California.
