Depending on skin types, nightime routine should differ (Reply to this comment)
by esthival
Hi
I never wash my makeup off everynight and have worn makeup as in full foundation, powder, eye shadow, mascara - the whole works for at least 10 years now..and rarely do I remove my makeup at night.
I have oily skin and never has not removing my makeup caused comedones. The only time I ever see a comedone is when my hormones act up because of my period and then those remain in the chin and jawline area which is where hormonal fluctuations will be seen in skin.
So - overwashing is not good. You will affect the acid mantle of the skin which is the barrier that protects it. I am 36 and on a daily basis am told I look 25. Obviously, genetics and the fact that oily skin ages the slowest helps, but I would suggest the use of a refresher or toner after cleansing skin if you feel you must remove makeup before sleep. A toner will reset the pH level of skin to a neautral level. And when I say toner, I mean something no alcohol in it at all because that will only aggravate the skin.
BTW - I am a licensed Esthetician, so I give this advice based on my educational background :)

Wow, they look 30 years younger! That's got to be nice. Maybe you'll inherit those genes, too, and be a hot grandma someday.

Hey Melissa! Believe me, I've fallen asleep without taking off my makeup many a night. Sometimes I'm just too tired. Hee!

Interesting... (Reply to this comment)

My aunts who are now in their 80's never took their make off (still don't) at night. They always washed their face well in the morning. They look about 55 years old.
They swear that too much washing of their faces will dry then out, irritate them, and cause wrinkles.
I think genetics play a huge part in how you age and how your skin looks but I agree taking the stuff off and letting your skin breathe has to be better than not...

.....but my eye makeup is another matter! Yeah, I know I should, but if it doesn't come off while I'm washing my face, it stays there till it wears off.
I guess that's really icky if you think about it.
Thanks for the advice as MAYBE I'll start doing better in the future :-)
