I understand why you are astounded but the author pointed out that Madison is not as well known or appreciated by the general public as much as he should be. Certainly, as a criminal attorney, I've appreciated his work firsthand for decades.

a graduate of James Madison College (where we read the 10th Federalist Paper every year), and knowing that there is a James Madison University, I found your title startling. And certainly anyone interested in the Constitution (which leaves out most of those claiming to insist on "original intent") knows of his central role apart from being the fourth president.

Thankfully, I had a good history textbook in college, so I was able to learn about many of his contributions. It seems he may finally be getting his credit now from historians.

Just finished a book by John Ferling on the Revolution and early period thereafter. Madison figured as an important partner to Jefferson and counterweight to the Federalists, just as you say here.
This sounds like an interesting read, nicely reviewed.
