The Bottom Line Fears another four months of Dave's write/offs!

CaptainD brings us the latest Epinions questionnaire W/O, and logically, it seems to be an extenstion of his last Write/Off – "Challenge Yourself!". Of course, if this is anything like that, it’ll run for four months, so the real question here is whether Epinions can handle a year of write/offs from Dave!

What category have you had the most success in?

Of course, no-one said anything about these questions being easy! Mainly I write in Movies and Music, but I’ve also branched out into Electronics, Travel, Books, Restaurants, and Kids & Family. With the exception of books, I’ve only written one review in each of those ones I’ve branched out into, and I’m pretty pleased with the responses I got all round. Does that equal success? I don’t know. I suppose my ventures into those categories have been successful, but it’s not like I’ve met a whole bunch of people and increased my section of the WOT by writing there. That seems to happen in Movies and Music. I guess if I had to pick just one category I’d say Movies, simply because the sheer volume of reviews I’ve written there means writing a movie review is second nature to me now. Music requires a bit more brainwork, but it’s I know a lot more about music than I do movies. I think I’m just going to take the easy road here and say Writer’s Corner. It’s all about personality, which can seriously increase your section of the WOT.

What category do you write the best reviews in, overall?

My best reviews aren’t restricted to any one category. The best ones are the ones I can look back on and be extremely proud of. In music, it’s Nude’s "Cities And Faces" and Good Charlotte’s “The Chronicles Of Life & Death”. In Movies, there’s Finding Nemo and Hitch. Those are the reviews that spring to mind as my "best". Overall, I’d say my "best" reviews are the ones I’m most passionate about, so anything I’ve rated five stars.

What category do you enjoy writing in the most?

Music. Dave doesn’t go in there very often. Seriously, it probably is music though. I’m just very obsessed with music at this stage in my life, but I don’t know how well that comes across in my reviews. I don’t get to do as many music reviews as I’d like because I never used to have the money to keep going out and buying CDs. These days I do though, and I’ve got more reviews coming up on New Zealand music (I’m halfway through a Steriogram review, and I’m trying to get 48 May and Elemeno P added to the database). Then I’ll be working on the entire Green Day backcatalogue, which could take me all of June! It’s a task I’m really looking forward to though.

What category do you feel most passionately about?

When it comes to actual categories, none. I’m passionate about writing and I’m passionate about sharing my views. That covers all categories on Epinions. I’m very passionate about New Zealand music at the moment, which is reflected in my recent Fast Crew review. I’m also passionate about making sure the underdog gets recognized. That’s why if I truly like an artist that people constantly diss on for no apparent reason, I’m not afraid to speak up and say I enjoy their music. Same goes with movies. If I think a film is damn good but am only seeing one or two star ratings, that’s motivation for me to write a review on it. That works vice versa too, the immediate example springing to mind being Spider-Man 2. Everyone else loved it, I hated it. Therefore, I felt the need to speak out against it, very passionately. The review itself wasn’t exactly well received, and there were times when I dreaded the comments that were going to come up, but I’ll still defend that review to this very day. That’s what being passionate means.

Don’t blame me if that all just came across as a way to blow my own trumpet and link back to my own reviews… It’s all Dave’s idea after all!
