I am surprised about your friends experience. I know the aussies are quite a bit different to us NZers, we seem to have retained more of the British way of life and I guess you can't get more British than tea.
Iced Tea used to be readily available at most NZ cafes not too long ago, well last time I looked anyway. I'm not so sure I have seen it on many restaurant menus of late though. I will start being more attentive from now on.
Thanks for clearing up the snapple thing for me ... sounds good! Maybe I should look into importing it into New Zealand, could be a goer!

Now here's one for you: www.snapple.com. Snapple makes iced tea, lemonade and juice drinks. A friend of mine lived in your neighboring Australia for awhile and told me she couldn't get a glass of iced tea anywhere. She said the people just looked at her like she was insane for wanting cold tea. Is it the same where you live?

Sorry 'bout all the food confusion! I think I probably know way more about American culture than you would about mine, what with all the American TV shows and movies I have watched over the years. I have heard a few curly ones with this food w/o as well and many things have me totally stumped. What on earth is snapple (??)
* Quick lesson just for you ...
Beetroot - not sure but maybe you know this as beet? It is a big purple root vegetable which I prefer cooked, sliced, and preserved. I like it with salad and cold cuts.
wine gums - yummy soft chewy fruit flavoured lollies or candies.
capsicum - green, red, yellow peppers. I like them thinly sliced and sprinkled through lettuce with thinly sliced red onion and rough cut tomato.
kumara - possibly your sweet potato? Kumara is a Maori word for a big purple root vegetable similar to a potato.
Any help?

Though this was all very interesting, and I love anything that you write. You make me feel as if I need to take a course in Food 101 to know what the heck you are talking about. The following are totally foreign to me: beetroot, wine gums
capsicum, kumara. My reference to "911" is that I need help, girlfriend! 911 is our emergency help number in the states. Is all well with you dear one?

.. yup, you can't beat homemade!
The only packaged dessert that I have tried which tasted anywhere near decent was a 'Sticky Date Pudding' ... pretty nice it was too.

Nothing like them, I agree! My dad was the "chef" and my mom was the "baker" and she made the best--huckleberry and rhubarb pie, bread pudding, lemon bars (my husbands still talks about them).
My excuse was that I didn't have a good over. But my new one going in is convection so I'm hoping to get some better results!

Hi Jan,
I went looking on google to see if feijoas have another name and yes they do.
You may know them as pineapple guava or guavasteen. I have never heard of those things but the nearest thing to the taste that I know of would be tinned guavas. I have never had fresh guava that I am aware of.
Pity about those char grilled veggies ... damn!

I wasn't sure if you would know this one so I will try to describe it to you.
Hokey pokey ice cream is your basic vanilla ice cream with the added delight of small balls of hard crunchy caramel candy sprinkled through it. The outer edge of the caramel candy has a tendency to melt ever so slightly into the surrounding area of ice cream giving it an extra edge.
It has been my all time favorite since childhood and I still like it just as much now, hope you get to try it yourself one day.

Oh oh, theres that language barrier again ... whoops.
Yeah, wine gums are sort of like gummy bears. They are small chewy fruit flavored candy and I guess they must be a British thing.
I shudder to think what you must have thought, wine flavored gum doesn't sound very tasty at all.
