| teresarg's Full Review: Puente Romano Hotel |
The Puente Romano is a sister resort of the Marbella Club.
The hotel itself is nothing special outside. The property that involves the buildings ( there are several little houses mediterranean style that are spread around )makes its beauty.
It is surrounded by wonderful gardens where we can find tropical trees and beautiful flowers . These gardens are very well maintained and there is a small stream with swans, fishes and frogs that runs throughout the property. To cross it we have small wood bridges.
That is what gives Puente Romano its charm. When we cross those gardens and hear the sound of the running water, the sound of the birds(lots of them too)and the sound of the frogs we feel a sense of complete relaxation.
The name Puente Romano, which means Roman Bridge, comes from a real stone roman time bridge in the property.
It is a very large property that involves the hotel, and the reception is right at the top, when you enter it.
As you go down to the beach you find your room, the best ones, the suites, are down, in front of the private beach and you have to walk for a while to get to it. But when you check in at reception they will take you and your luggage to your room in a small open car , like those that are used at golf.
Every house has the name of a spanish town or village , from A to Z.
I stayed in a suite right in front of the beach. It is a 2 bedroom suite with 2 marble large bathrooms and a large balcony . In the balcony there is a table with some chairs where we took our breakfast an two sunbed chairs.Although it is a very good suite, comfortable, with a nice and large living area, I think the decoration is a little out of date and a little boring. But everything was thought to make you feel comfortable: a full minibar, two televisions , a dressing zone with a big mirror, you have even an umbrella in the case you need it.
As for bathroom amenities you have everything you need, from shower cap to lemon bath salts. They also provide slippers and bathrobes.
Their service is also very good. The maids work very well and they are always willing to get you everything you need. And a must is a small box of handmade chocolates they leave in the night table when they open the bed for you at night: they are delicious.
We had breakfast in the room, at the balcony, with the sun shining and the sea in our front. The breakfast is good. You can also have a buffet breakfast at one of the restaurants.
The private beach is nothing special, like most of southern Spain beaches. Being a client of the hotel you have sunbed chairs with towels and there is always a waiter in the beach to get you something from he bar.
The hotel has 4 or 5 swimming pools spread throughout the property. They don't have much people , the one near the beach is the more crowded.
They also have 4 restaurants . One of them is on the beach. This one has a small cold buffet and some typical spanish dishes. It is not expensive for Marbella, a meal there can cost you about 20 to 35 dollars per person, depending on what you eat, seafood is more expensive, and drink .
I also had lunch and dinner at the Roberto. It is an Italian restaurant by night but during lunch it has the best buffet I've ever had. You have a choice of multiple salads, typical spanish salads, lobsters, prawns and other fresh seafood with a selection of mayoneses and sauces, paella, tortillas and a barbecue where you choose from several fishes to several meats ( veal, lamb chops, etc) and the chef grills them there for you. A wide variety of sweets , fruits and cheese is also available. It will cost you around 50 dollars a person, excluding beverages, but is well worth it.
The dinner there was a disappointment. Their italian cuisine is not good.
In the property you have a hairdresser, a small newspaper, magazine and souvenir shop and 2 other shops.
The hotel is five minutes drive from Marbella town and another 5 minutes drive from Puerto Banus, a beautiful marina where you have good shops and very good restuarants.
If you want to go somewhere while at Puente Romano you need a taxi but I would advise you to rent a car and wonder around, there is a lot to see and to go to.
I don't want to end this review without recommending 2 wonderful restaurants : the Tres Olivos (near the hotel, not expensive, beautiful if you eat outside in summer, marvellous cuisine)and Antonio at Puerto Banus (try their seafood paella or the "fritada malaguena").
Puente Romano is a nice place to have a quiet and relaxing holiday.
