My vacation spots pretty much depend on the airfare. I go where the tickets are cheap. So every time I am about to decide where to go, I get online and find the best fare on the net and go where the best fare takes me.
So Yahoo! Travel has always been my first choice. But back in July when I was planning my vacation in August, I missed a major airfare sale. It so happened that I received a coupon for hotwire, so I thought that I might as well try it.
The best fare I found, after comparing a lot of destinations, was roundtrip to Chicago for $133 from DFW, minus the $25 coupon I had the final cost was $108, pretty darn good, I think.
But the not-darn-good part is that I couldn't choose the departure time nor the flight. So I had to take a flight at 6 am and for the first time in my life fly on a DC9. Even though both DFW and Chicago are major airports, I still had to make a stop at Memphis.
That's why Hotwire has remained my second choice. I would rather go with the low fares on Yahoo!Travel where I get to choose my own flight and departure time.
So if you are like me who goes where the best fare takes you, Yahoo!Travel would be the best for you. But if you are travelling to certain cities and can't be that flexible, you would want to check out both sites for the best fare. Even though Hotwire has been advertising itself as the lowest fares provider, they don't necessarily always have the cheapest tickets. I've been doing comparisons on both sites and it seems that Yahoo!Travel still has the lower prices on average. But for certain locations Hotwire might be a better choice. Just always keep in mind that by choosing Hotwire, you are sacrificing some travel comforts.
