I like to ask Christians, “So when Jesus said love your enemies, do you think he meant for you to kill them?”

This brought up some important points--I have been struggling with these issues myself in recent years. I cannot see how God can be on one side and not the other.

Forgive me for taking so long to get to this account of your recent church experience. What you say is true, and you have all the proper credential for your observations (which so few do in these discussion). Years ago, someone I respect, said: "Many of Christians follow the principles of forgiveness, peace, and generosity which Jesus taught. But many, very likely a majority, see Jesus and Christianity as their personal security blanket, which will save their souls and guarantee them eternal life. As for the present, they mouth the pieties on Sunday, but screw their fellows the rest of the week."

Nothing profound or original, and something similar might be said for any group which feels righteous and powerful, but we are being led by a group that identifies itself with the Judeo-Christian faith, and they are the most disastrous, fraudulent, corrupt, arrogant, incompetent and criminal leadership that America has ever had.

I hope that you get back to Epinions soon.

Thank you for your continued trust in me.

Your observation... (Reply to this comment)

is well stated and taken to heart.

I suppose you can call me a "fundie drone" as I've seen one write in our E-Community and stereotype me as a member of a group. I don't suppose society will ever overcome that trap.

Nonetheless, while holding a firm faith and attempting to follow Christ, I hesitate to call myself a "Christian." I paraphrase C.S. Lewis in stating that word "Christian" doesn't even come close to meaning the same today as it did at its origination in Antioch.

As for killing another, you are correct. I do not see any way to align the act with the teaching of Christ. Do we do it anyway? Yes, we do. We do that and many other things that are opposed to the teachings of Christ. I try, yet I often fail. That is why Christ came. I could never do the right thing on my own. Does "salvation," "born again," "calling myself "a Christian" make me perfect? Far from it. In fact, I'm more aware of my imperfections now. I see my imperfections and I know others have them also. That is why I immerse myself in God's Word, attempt to practice His kind of love rather than mine and avoid the group-thing of men.

Perhaps one day we will meet. If I say or do anything "nu-Christian, please ignore me and focus on Christ.

I appreciate your writing and opinion. With best regards.

The center of the Nazi pagentry were the stylized Nazi flags. Our former church put itself in the same category to me when it set up all teh American flags following 9/11.

Why American Nurenberg? (Reply to this comment)

I did not understand the comparison...In general, my reaction was the same as yours, except that I don't go to church and I was spared the horror that you saw. In street display of phony patriotism, I only saw jingoism and hypocrisy. And the hypocrisy continues. It takes guts to wear an Afghan flag, and I commend you for it.

To say what needs to be said in this climate of fear, turmoil, hate and paranoia.

And having had personal experience with the SDA church, I can't say I disagree with your assessment of them. Buncha raving lunatics, in my humble opinion. Why is it only the raving lunatics on the other side we're not supposed to like?
