The Bottom Line This is so neat to be able to write about all those great singers, and songs, that I love so much.
I am certainly giving my age away with my contribution to this fun write off. A Animals - House of the rising sun. It was number 1 in Britain for 12 weeks in 1964 and then re-issued in 1972, and back in the charts 1982. Paul Anka - Diana. This was the first record I ever bought with my pocket money. I was just 9 years old at the time. B Mr. Acker Bilk - Stranger on the shore. Reached number 2 in Britain in 1961. C Carpenters - Too many to chose from. I still cry about Karen's death and that beautiful voice we lost. We played I won't last a day without you at my mother's funeral. D Danny and the Juniors - At the Hop. It was a hit in Britain in 1958 and again in 1976. I love to dance to this record. It is one of my all time dance favorites. Charlie Drake - Splish, Splash, I was taking a bath around about Saturday night. Lonnie Donegan - My Old Man's a Dustman. I still know every word of this one. Number 1 hit in 1960 in Britain. E E is for Elvis and so is P for Presley. I am a fan. What can I say? I have a shrine to him. I have lots of his original singles, E.P.'s and albums. It's hard to pick a favorite but I love his rock'n'roll and his gospel. I play his music all the time. Everly Brothers - Bye Bye Love, Wake up little Susie, (was I asleep?), All I have to do is dream, and the list goes on. Just loved all of these in the late 50's. F Four pennies - Juliet. Number 1 in Britain in 1964. Wish I still had this record but gave it away when I came to America. Adam Faith - What do you want if you don't want money? He sang some great music in the 50's and 60's. Connie Francis - Who's sorry now and My happiness are good ones that come to mind. G Gerry and the Pacemakers - How do you do it, and I like it in 1963. However most people know them for Ferry across the Mersey in 1964. As a youngster I was in love with Gary Glitter and loved his, I'm the leader of the gang. Boy, I am embarrassed about that. H Bill Haley & his Comets - Rock around the clock. It came out in 1955, but was in and out of the British charts up until 1974. I love to jive to this one. What a great beat it has. Herman's Hermits - There's a kind of hush all over the world. In the charts in 1967. I also enjoy Mrs Brown you have a lovely daughter. We saw Peter Noone with the Hermits at SeaWorld last year. I I don't have a favorite for I. J Michael Jackson - Billie Jean. I got to see him on tour, at Wembly, back in 1988. It was the concert that Prince Charles and Princess Diana attended. Michael was amazing, and I got to sit opposite part of the Royal family. K Kinks - You really got me. A number 1 hit in Britain in 1964. J Jerry Lee Lewis - Great Balls of Fire and Whole lot of shaking going on. I got to see him in concert in 1979. It was wild. L Little Richard - Lucille and Good Golly Miss Molly. Again I just love to dance to them. M Manfred Mann - Do Wah Diddy Diddy and Mighty Quinn were both in the charts in the 1960's. I have to sing and dance to most of their music. N Rick Nelson - Hello Mary Lou, goodbye heart. It made number 2 in Britain in 1961. O Roy Orbison - I love most of his songs but if I have to chose it would be, Only the lonely and Oh Pretty Woman. What a great voice. P Elvis (the King) Presley - American Trilogy, which makes me cry, and the list just goes on and on, like the bunny. Q Queen - Bohemian Rhapsody. I think this is one of the greatest songs written. Freddy Mercury you are truly missed. I also love, We are the Champions. R Rolling Stones and I can't give you a favorite, too many to chose from. Righteous Brothers - Unchained Melody. A hit back in 1965 and is still just as beautiful today. S Searchers - Needles and Pins, and Sweets for my Sweet. Both number 1 hits that came out in 1963 in Britain. Simon and Garfunkel - Bridge over Troubles Water. One of the most enchanting songs I have ever encountered. I just love to play with one on the organ. T Conway Twitty - It's only Make Believe. What an incredible voice this guy had. He died way too young. Number 1 record in Britain in 1958. Teddy Bears - To know him is to love him. A hit in 1958 and again in 1979. U U.B.40 - Red Red Wine. A number 1 hit in Britain in 1984. V Ricky Valance - Tell Laura I love her. His only hit it Britain in 1960. W Who - My Generation and so many more. X I will give a miss. Y Karen Young - Nobody's child. A very moving song that was recorded in 1969. Z Zombies - She's not there, and Tell her no. They were in the charts in 1964 and 1965 in Britain. So I still love the era of my childhood, and those teenage years. Thanks to Ron for inviting me to join this write off. Susie. |
