When I first read about the Ford Freestyle a few years ago I was very curious but also cautious. I was an entirely new style for Ford. It's engine was completely new and it's frame would be completely new as well. Usually with anything new, especially expensive items, it's best to wait and see if the bugs are worked out of the system. A financial investment too soon can be a huge mistake. So I waited and read other reviews. But then one month a local dealership offered a deal too good to be true, since cars in general weren't selling very well. 0% interest for 60 months with an extended warranty included! Well, I figured now was the time to do an on site investigation. I test drove a mint green Freestyle and immediately felt very comfortable driving it. It's heavier frame has that sturdy yet maneuverable feel, it's seats are very comfortable and it's very responsive for it's size and engine. It only comes with a 4 cyl engine and I had heard that it did not accelerate well. But how much speed does one really need in a family vehicle? I felt that it accelerated more than adequately for the types of road and driving conditions that a family vehicle would be subjected to. My husband and I have driven it cross country and it is very comfortable for long distance. Roomy but with plenty of arm rests. Decent on gas mileage, it averages 20-24 mpg but for its size (it comfortably seats 7!) it does well enough for the current mpg choices. What other SUV seats 7 and gets anywhere over 20 mpg! The second seat also reclines back, great for long distance. My only real complaint would be a better sound system compatible with mp3 players since it has the usual bland ford system.
