Grilled Spaghetti

Jun 18 '05

The Bottom Line Don't forget to cut the rubber handles off the pot before you grill. The smell of burning rubber is not condusive to a good meal. Bon Appetit

A Recipe You'll NEVER Get from Martha Stewart

Preparation Time: About Three Years
Cooking Time: About Two Hours

Ingredients: One large jar of spaghetti sauce of your choice.
1 pound ground beef
1 large can whole tomatoes
2 pounds spaghetti

First, do something stupid and lose a good job. This step is essential because you need to get your expenses higher than your income for the recipe to have the same flavor.

Wait three years. By now, you should be robbing Peter to pay Paul on all of your bills – especially your utilities. When the gas company turns off your gas and there’s no way you’re getting it back on for at least three weeks, you’re ready.

Borrow an electric hotplate and enough money to fill the propane tank on your gas grill.

Brown the ground beef on the hotplate.

Add the sauce.

Crush the canned tomatoes and add to sauce.

Simmer until done.

Remove the sauce from the hotplate.

Fill a large pan with about 12 cups of salted water. Wait for it to boil.

After about an hour, when it hasn’t boiled, get your husband to hook up the new propane tank for you and turn on the grill.

Cut the rubber handle covers off your pot. These will melt on the grill if you don’t.

Carry the pot of almost-boiling water out to the grill. Make sure to splash some on yourself while walking.

Put the pot on the grill, and close the lid. The smoke from the grease from cookouts-past will give your spaghetti a nice, smoky flavor.

The water will boil surprisingly quickly. When it does, add the pasta and cook until done.

Remember the splashing hot water incident that occurred on the way out to the grill. Have husband bring the strainer outside to avoid a repeat performance.

Have him hold the strainer over the lawn, far away from his body. Strain the pasta.

Note: From personal experience, it doesn’t hurt anything if it starts raining. In fact, it may help rinse the pasta.

Take the pasta inside, serve and enjoy.
