I have wanted a MP3 player since the first ones came out a few years ago. The only problem was that none of them had all the features that I wanted in a MP3 player. I wanted something that was small, could hold a lot of music (my whole collection), and didn't cost too much. Enter Archos Jukebox Studio 20!
I was reading the Sunday advertisements in the paper when I came across the Archos Jukebox Studio 20 for $279.99 at Best Buy. I went to the website to check it out and decided that this was what I wanted. It holds 20 GB of data, and plays MP3s. I liked the idea that it adds a drive letter on the computer, because you can use it just like any ordinary hard drive. This was a great feature because my laptop only has a 20 GB hard drive, and the Archos Jukebox would double that! The other features that I liked were its ability to play playlists, random, repeat, fast forward, and rewind options. Another thing that was nice was that it came with 8 rechargeable AA batteries (it only needs 4 to work, you get 4 extra!) that recharge when you plug the unit into the wall outlet! It also has an auto-power off feature that turns the power off when you haven't listened to any music for a while.
So I went to Best Buy to purchase it, but they were out of stock. So I bought it off their website, and received it a few days later in the mail.
When I first opened the box and took the unit out, I could tell that it was built very well. The unit is very small, and is kinda heavy (but that shows its not cheap). It came with a carrying case, a AC adapter, and headphones. The headphones look cool, but produce poor quality sound. At first I thought the sound quality was bad, but then I plugged in my own headphones, and the quality was actually very good. You can adjust the volume, but it is kinda annoying because its not a wheel like in most portable devices, you need to go into the menu to change the it! On Best Buy's website it said that this unit did not have a random function, but it does, it is just called Shuffle.
The installation was very straightforward. You plug it into your USB port and put the CD in the drive. Thats it! The Archos Jukebox comes with the full version of Music Match Jukebox, which is a great media player. It can rip cd's and burn them. When you want to transfer files to the device, all you have to do is plug it into the USB port and a new drive letter automatically appears!
I have been using it for about a week now and I am very happy with it. I like to have a lot of different music playing while I drive in my car, and this does the job perfectly. It can hold so much music, it puts my cars 6 cd changer to shame! I will be taking a trip to Rhode Island this Friday and plan on playing all the music on the drive up with the Jukebox studio. The batteries last a long time, and I have two sets because 8 came with the unit!
So far I am extremely happy with my purchase and would recommend this device to anyone. The sound quality is great, the features are numerous, and the capacity is amazing.
