I love Suzanne Brockmann. Though I've never met the lady in person, I have my hopes that one day, that might change. She's got a real talent for telling stories, and creating lovable characters.
And she's done it again with Harlan "Cowboy" Jones, the hero of Everyday, Average Jones. He's handsome, of course. He's a genuinely nice guy. He's a real hero, the sort who goes in and saves people stuck in Middle Eastern countries when they're being held hostage. Granted, he's a SEAL, and that's his job, but he does it well and hey, I could handle being rescued by my own "Cowboy".
Cowboy rescues Melody Evans, and it's love (or rather lust) at first sight. Once they're out of danger, the duo spend a lovely six days in hotel rooms (no, we don't see it first-hand) getting to know one another better, so to speak. They even join the illustrious Mile High Club on the way to Paris. And Melody gets pregnant.
A fact she neglects to tell Cowboy. A fact he finds out by finding her passed out on the sidewalk after she's chased down the local juvenile delinquent, when he goes to look her up, and meet her again after a seven month dry spell. Hey, she has her reasons. Not particularly *good* reasons, in my book, but reasons nonetheless.
This is a romance novel. I'm not going to spoil anything by telling you the boy gets the girl in the end. It's a well-written book, and a cute story. Well. Cowboy's cute. I didn't care much for Melody. Those reasons don't jive with my own, and she resisted her "happy ending" for an awfully long time, on the thinnest of excuses.
The juvenile delinquent, as a matter of fact, was occasionally more entertaining.
The book starts off strong. The ending's not as fantastic. Still, it's a part of the series, and goes into greater detail on a wonderful character, so if you like the series, and like the guys. Don't skip this one. But feel free to raspberry Melody for me.
