Dear JAGUARDOG...

The Bottom Line An open letter to JAGUARDOG telling him what I think of his W/O idea--not to mention entering the W/O. How about you? Are you game?

Dear JAGUARDOG,

When I decided to enter your W/O (How could I resist from the likes of you!?!), I had this challenge of knowing that I would have a very hard time making up my mind which artists to use, if I were trying to share my favorites, because many different artists become my favorites at the time that they're coming over an oldies station on the radio or spinning on my turntable.

So, I decided to do something a little bit different.

I would write down the letters of the alphabet in order and put down the first three solo artists/duos/groups that happened to pop into my head when I was on the letter they began with.

There would be some rules:

1. I would list them by first name only (not counting "The"). Otherwords, I would put Elvis Presley (who was listed--and just listed as Elvis, in his case, since that's how he was mostly known) under the E category instead of the P category.

2. I couldn't repeat (e.g. Have both a listing for Gary Puckett & The Union Gap and The Union Gap).

3. Before I could list someone, I had to be able to recall at least one song he/she/they had done--and it must be a song that I liked, even if it weren't among my very favorite songs.

4. Finally, once I'd put down the soloist/duo/group, I couldn't change my mind, even if I remembered someone I liked even more (for instance, while I really like all of the P choices I ended up listing, I actually like The Platters better than any of them, even though all three are ones I really like).

When I couldn't come up with anything, I made a # sign.

Anyway, I hope that you enjoy my list--and thanks so much for the Most Helpful rating you gave to my review of The Other Side Of The Mountain.

Happy Holidays To You & Yours!
