Pros: New show each time and always a laugh
Cons: Gotta reserve early for a closer seat.
The Bottom Line: Improvacadia's guys and gals had my wife, two young daughters 18 and 21 and me laughing at every show we have seen. That's three to date.

| popsrocks's Full Review: The Improvacadia, ME |
We discovered The Improvacadia about three years ago. They were just into their second year in Bar Harbor Maine.
Basics
Their web site states ImprovAcadia is an improv comedy theater located
in the state of Maine,
next to Acadia National Park,
on Mount Desert Island,
in the town of Bar Harbor,
on 15 Cottage St., 2nd Floor.
We feature the best performers from Chicago performing sophisticated and funny improvisational theater every night of the week...
...Our shows are different every night of the week because we improvise every single thing you see. On any given night, you might see a fully improvised musical, a fully improvised one act play, or a fully improvised piece based on the life of an audience member! No two shows are ever alike because every show is inspired from audience suggestions and then created right before your eyes. So you can come back multiple times and never see the same show twice.
Open May 23rd to October 18th 2008

I can tell ya, these guys and gals are funny. That first year we saw two shows. We had to go again this year and once again we were not disappointed.
Setting
On the busy Cottage street in downtown Bar harbor is a three story building with shops downstairs and a long stairway up to the second level. It's here where the shows are created. The room has perhaps fifteen small tables that up to four crowd around facing a level stage area. A huge picture window that is behind the stage is closed for the performance. I believe there must be a law that prohibits drivers from looking up, seeing the action and going into laughing fits at the wheel.
The theater has a small full bar with one gal that dodges her way through the hiking boots and chair legs getting to everyone. Prices are reasonable and coffee and desserts are also available.
Our Experience
The earlier shows are said to be family shows. I saw two of them and the actors keep the material G rated yet full of laughs. The later show did have a bit more "adult" humor but wasn't overly so. Quick story, I was on a cruise earlier this year and there was a group that noted they were part of the Chicago Second City. They were trying to use "adult" humor and and truthfully it was more trash mouth and moronic than truly funny.
As an Improv show no two shows are ever alike. The troop does however use some tried and true methods of creating the laughter. Usually the scene is set up by asking questions of the audience. Ya gotta shout out fast because there are some quick witted people giving answers right away.
The cast we saw this year had a few of the same members who entertained three years ago. Their sharp minds and physical humor kept me and the family laughing.
I'm happy that these people have made themselves a permanent fixture on the streets of Bar Harbor the Gateway to Acadia National Park. I know we will see them every time we visit our favorite US destination.
