Lovable Loser Wins the Trophy

Written: Oct 24 '01
Pros:Hours of comedy infested game play, and great puzzles
Cons:Sexual content that allows mature audiences only
The Bottom Line: Go out and buy it now.

Leisure Suit Larry 7: Love for Sail

First and foremost I should mention that this game is for mature audiences only and is definitely not suitable for children. There are jokes, innuendos, scenes, and side games all of the sexual nature. There is also partial--and in some cases complete nudity. Secondly, this game is reason enough to thank Al Lowe for continuing the Leisure Suit Larry Saga. (After Leisure suit Larry 3, he swore he'd never make a Leisure Suit Larry 4. Which he didn't, he just skipped 4 and went straight to 5. So, technically, this is Leisure Suit Larry 6: Love for Sail.) In Leisure Suit Larry 7: Love for Sail, we once again join that lovable loser, Larry Laffer, on a quest for disco, fun, and sex.

Characters

Larry Laffer
Sex: Male
Hair: Receeding
The "hero" of our story. A total lovable loser that just can't seem to win. He's a throw back from the 70's and just can't seem to take off that “oh so fashionable” Leisure Suit.

Captain Thygh
Sex: Female
Hair: Blond
This sexy minx is captain of the PMS Bouncy cruise ship. Though she’s got all she could possibly need aboard the PMS Bouncy, she longs to be a Super Tanker captain. Captain Thygh is the originator of the “Thygh’s Man Trophy Award Contest”. The winner of this contest will spend a week “cruising on the captain.”

Drew Barringmore
Sex: Female
Hair: Blond
Drew Barringmore is the author of one of Anton Fokker’s most thorough biographies. She’s a nudist that spends her entire week of cruising relaxing at the clothing optional pool and reading. In the words of Larry, “This is the first time I’ve had to get a woman back INTO her clothes.”

Dewmi Moore
Sex: Female
Hair: Black
Dewmi Moore is a Strip Egyptian Liar’s Dice player that cruises the ship’s casino looking for someone else to con. And of course, who easier to con than our gullible hero, Larry.

Victorian Principles/Vicki
Sex: Female
Hair: Red
Victorian is the ship’s Librarian and her name isn’t Victorian Principles for nothing. Her favorite book, “Prudish and Proud” fully explains her attitude on sex. For fun, Victorian likes to “start at one end of the book shelf and work her way to the other.” Unfortunately, she’s now on her fourth pass through most of them. Mid-game, Victorian goes into an extreme transformation into Vicki the sex goddess, and you’ll definitely hear that phrase change a bit.

Jamie Lee Coitus
Sex: Female
Hair: Reddish-Brown
Jamie Lee is a frustrated fashion designer, trying to figure out what she’s going to do for this Fall’s new fashion line. She’s horribly upset that Kelvin Clone has stolen her new Fall line and needs to design a new one post-haste. Maybe Larry can help her?

Nailme Jugg
Sex: Female
Hair: Blond
Nailme is Whydontcha’s mama, and the first member of a country duet. She’s on vacation with her daughter waiting for the “heat to die down”. Along side her daughter, she’s created such country hits as: “Got my Panties ‘Round my Ankles and Pain in my Heart” and “He Had His Daddy’s Eyes and His Other Daddy’s Smile”

Whydontcha Jugg
Sex: Female
Hair: Blond
Whydontcha is Nailme’s daughter and the second member of the Jugg’s country duet. This little country vixen “innocently” has many “slips” in conversation and reveals a little too much about her and her mama.

Annette Bonning
Sex: Female
Hair: Black
Annette Bonning, and active participant in the “Blind Dessert Tasting Contest” is the frustrated wife of Mr. Bonning, the multi-millionaire main shareholder of a line of Oil Tankers. Her husband is considerably older than her and she’s just waiting for him to “keel over”. Perhaps Larry could help her out?

Peter Purser
Sex: Male
Hair: Brown
Peter Purser is the ships main desk secretary. He’s very effeminate and has a natural dislike for girl crazy guys like Larry.

Peggy
Sex: Female
Hair: Who Knows?
Peggy is the ships maintenance woman, she lost her leg in a horrible accident involving KY Sexual Lubricant and deodorant spray. “Let’s just say, I wasn’t sprayin’ me arm pits!” Peggy has multiple connectors for her peg leg ranging from a mop to a blow torch, and an extremely dirty mouth. She offers a lot of information during the game and is a huge gossip.

Xqwtz
Sex: Male
Hair: Black
Xqwtz is the ship’s only cabin boy, and he never works. His one dream is to get a passport and leave the country so that he can stop working on the PMS bouncy. He’s very eccentric and nobody can seem to correctly pronounce his name.

Storyline

We find our hero where we left him last in Leisure Suit Larry 6, having a night of passion with Shamera. Unfortunately “a night with you, Larry, gives a girl a lot of time to think”, and Shamera soon decides to abandon our hero, chained to the bed with a cigarette in his mouth. Too bad Larry doesn’t smoke, he drops the cigarette from his lips and sets the hotel room on fire. After finding his way out of this seemingly fatal situation, Larry finds a brochure for a cruise on the PMS bouncy. “Larry Laffer, you just leapt from the 20th story of a burning building, what are you going to do next?” “I’m going to… Take a cruise!”

And so our hero boards the PMS bouncy and enters the Thygh’s Man Trophy Award Contest. Included in his events are:

Best Dressed Competition
Larry? Best dressed man? This is going to take a little work.

Sexual Prowess Competition
Once again, a task in need of some serious help.

Cook-off Competition
Only an extra ingredient could win this one for Larry.

Bowling Competition
What was that Peggy was saying about her accident again?

Craps Competition
Two words Larry, “Shaved Dice”

Abstinence (a joke of course)

In order to win the Thygh’s Man Trophy Award Contest, Larry’s going to have to work hard to cheat cheat cheat. As you direct Larry throughout the different ship areas you will meet many different women whom will help you in winning the Thygh’s Man Trophy Award, but not for free. Each of these women need something from you too and, unfortunately for Larry, it’s not sex.

In the end, if you play your cards right and pay attention to everything, you might just find yourself being king for a week.

Game Play

The majority of your play time in Leisure Suit Larry 7 will be spent exploring and gathering clues. The rest of your time will be spent solving puzzles and putting the right items together to get everybody else what they want and/or need.

As you travel throughout the ship, you must pay close attention to everything around you and click on everything. I especially enjoy this game because no matter what you click on, the Narrator has something to say about it. Any gamer can easily be drawn into the world of Larry, and be captivated for hours. The world of Leisure Suit Larry is as close to the real world as it could possibly get except for one fatal flaw, no one’s life could possibly suck as bad as Larry’s.

Also, Al Lowe included a sort of side game called “Where’s Dil**” in which you will seek out the illustrious red and white stripped Dil***. There are 32 of them. Can you find them all? “Yeah Baby!”

Music

Al Lowe went out of his way to put mood music throughout the game. No matter where you go or what you’re doing, the music matches the mood perfectly. On a scale of one to ten, the music gets a 10.

Graphics

The graphics in this game are almost life like, if you throw aside the fact that everyone is a cartoon. The facial expressions and movement are so life like that you get drawn into the game and can become captive in Larry’s world for hours on end. On a scale of one to ten, the graphics get a 10.

The Bottom Line

All in all, I honestly find Leisure Suit Larry 7: Love for Sail to be a total and complete masterpiece. It is the greatest game yet in the Leisure Suit Larry saga and a must have for any mature, comedy-loving gamer.
