I’ve been trying to write about things outside of the movie category, but I seem to be running out of non-movie things to review. Like AliventiAsylum, I’m a member of Where’s George. In fact, it was in the Where’s George chat room that I thought of Stamp-Connection. I also found it a headache to write the URL by hand, especially considering that I was doing it on both sides. I asked around in the chat room and found that a few of the people there used the site.
The primary advantage for me is that there’s an entire section of Where’s George stamps. (If you look on the left side of the site, you’ll see it in green.) They have acrylic stamps, self-inking stamps, alignment guides and even name tags. This isn’t all they do. They also have other kinds of stamps, like return-address stamps, date stamps and endorsement stamps. I don’t really have any need for anything like that. I really stick to the Where’s George stuff.
The first stamp I got was a simple one-line stamp that did little more than direct people to Where’s George. The stamp has since broken. I didn’t even bother with their no-fault guarantee. The product lasted so long, I had no problem buying another just like it. I’ve also purchased several others, all acrylic. I have one with the outline of the State of Florida on it and Biscayne Park marked on the map. I have a customized stamp from them, which wasn’t that expensive. There is also one designed for $2 bills, which I happen to be fond of.
I am also fond of the Palette Hybrid ink pads. I highly recommend buying one of these. I usually get the red. That seems to show up on the bills the best. I’ve also gotten orange, but that doesn’t show so well on the bills. I’ve also been told that the rainbow ink pad isn’t so good. I may try other colors in the future.
The ink pads last a while. It seems like every few months, I need a new one and I can go through about 3,000 bills in a month. For a dollar more, I just buy a new one. You can get refill kits, but I don’t want to be bothered.
The ink does hold up very well on the bills. Since I’m spending the bills, it’s not really that easy for me to restamp the bills. The markings seem to hold up well. I’ve had someone tell me that they’ve found one of my bills at the bottom of a ship wreck and they could still make out the web site. That’s impressive.
Shipping hasn’t been a problem. I use the cheap method (United States Postal Service) and get it within a week or so, despite the fact that they’re on the other side of the country. For some reason, though, mail seems to come either very quickly or very slowly to me. Based on what I’ve read elsewhere, my experience with the shipping seems to be about average.
I really wish I could review the individual products on Epinions, but I have yet to find any of them listed. Whenever I buy a new ink pad, I look at the stamps and see if there’s anything else I’d like to buy, so I could definitely get a few more reviews out of my stamps and ink pads. I may very well buy more stamps for Where’s George. If I’m ever in need of a stamp for any reason, I’ll definitely go to Stamp-Connection first.
