The Bottom Line Sports=Playtime for Grownups
This is an entry in Puckmugger's (Epinions Resident Hockey Expert) Sports Write-off. Here is contained the ramblings of a sports fanatic. 1. What are your favorite sports to watch on television? I am a baseball junkie. More accurately, I suppose I am a Red Sox junkie. My wife was kind enough to indulge my obsession so we had the Major League Baseball package added to our cable package. I can watch pretty much any baseball game. It helps if one of my fantasy players is playing in the game. I dont like that I have to root against a team (the Yankees), but I have to do what I have to do. 2. How often do you watch sports on television? Pretty much every day. I have been keeping track of my Red Sox watching this year. Ive only missed 8 games so far this season. In the off-season, I try to catch pro basketball when I can. College basketball is my second favorite sport to watch. 3. What are your favorite sports to watch live? I would say baseball. Fenway Park is the greatest place on Earth. I dont get to too many hockey games, but they are pretty exciting live also. I miss the college experience of going to see my Maryland Terrapins. 4. How many live sporting events do you typically attend annually? Not as many as I would like. If I lived closer to Boston it would be a lot more. I would say it isnt much more than 10, if that many. 5. What organized team sports have you ever participated in previously? I played tennis and bowled on my high school teams. I played little league and Babe Ruth up until I was 13 and began to realize that as much as I loved baseball, I wasnt very good at it. I played intramural flag football and basketball in college 6. What organized individual sports have you participated in previously? I played tennis and bowled on my high school teams. I suppose those are sort of like team sports but you are out there as an individual. 7. What pick-up sports have you participated in previously? Unfortunately, very few. I could probably find a basketball court or two to play on, but I just dont take the time. 8. What sports or outdoor activities do you currently participate in? I play softball in the summertime. I live for it. Alas, the season is only about 3 months long. 9. How often? We play once a week. 10. Is there any sport that you wish you could participate in now? I wish I could get out and play tennis. My longtime playing partner moved out of state. I used to work with another guy that I played with, but we work separately now and dont make the effort to play. Its probably better that way since I pretty much kicked my butt every time we played. 11. Whats keeping you from doing it? See answer to previous question. 12. If your fairy godmother was going to give you all the skill and a job in pro sports, what sport would you play? I would play pro baseball for my beloved Red Sox. The camaraderie of baseball is something I would love to experience. There are many players who seem not to appreciate the gifts God has given them and dont treat the fans too well. I would give all the autographs I could and make all the personal appearances. 13. What team and position (if relevant)? I would like to play outfield or shortstop. 14. What beer would you promote as a sports celebrity? (OK, that was just to make certain Bruguru, Marty and Fuche participate) I would not promote any alcohol products because I think that sends the wrong message to kids. 15. N/A 16. Do you have any sports heroes? Who are they and why are they your heros? I think Ted Williams was a great man, though extremely flawed. He would be as close as they come to a sports hero for me. He cared maybe too much about pleasing the people, but he was always there for his fans. He fought in two wars. Imagine a player today volunteering to go to Iraq? What Pat Tillman of the Arizona Cardinals did was something dozens of baseball players did in World War II and Korea. 17. If you could invent a new sport, no matter how absurd, what would it be? Maybe some kind of variation on baseball that you could play by yourself. Thanks to puckmugger for coming up with the questions for this write-off. Please go to his page and read the other entries. |
