~~SUREVUE CONTACT LENSES~~I'D BE BLIND WITHOUT THEM!

Written: Oct 25 '01
The Bottom Line: For increased comfort and exceptional overall performance, ask your eye care professional about Johnson & Johnson Surevue Contact Lenses today.

Since about the 4th grade when I was first diagnosed with nearsightedness, my vision has been poor enough to require corrective lenses. I hated wearing glasses and often went without them, even though I couldn’t see the blackboard at school. Sitting in the front of the class helped, but I walked through life visually impaired and not knowing what I was missing! Soon after turning 15 years of age , I was fitted for a pair of contact lenses and was amazed at the difference. I could see again! There was definitely no going back to glasses. I was hooked! And for 17 years now (over half my life!), I’ve been a happy contact lens wearer. In the beginning, I wore the extended wear type that could be worn over night. These were quite convenient as I only had to take them out once a week for cleaning. But over time, the health of my eyes began to deteriorate and my eye care professional suggested I switch to daily wear contacts instead or I’d have to switch back to wearing glasses again. So I followed my doctor’s suggestion and thankfully my vision improved.

For many years, I wore the daily wear contacts that were designed to be worn about 2 years at a time and then replaced with a new pair. In those days, contact lenses were very expensive, so I took special care of mine most of the time to make them last as long as possible. Then, several years ago, disposable contact lenses were introduced at a much lower price, so I decided to give them a try. What a difference I experienced almost immediately! No longer did I have to purchase those expensive weekly protein enzyme cleaners that were necessary to keep my former type clean and more comfortable to wear. I’d wear my new contact lenses for a month, continuing to take them out at night as I had previously, and then replace them with a new pair. How hard it was those first few times though to actually throw away what seemed like were perfectly good contact lenses! But I soon adjusted to this new schedule of wearing my contacts and now there is no going back.

~~~~The Brand I Trust~~~~
Through trial and error, I quickly discovered that the Surevue brand of contact lenses with UV blocking made by Johnson & Johnson work the best for me overall. The exceptional performance, ease of use, and comfortable fit these contact lenses provide were exactly what I was looking for. With my poor 20/200 vision (normal is 20/20), I need a prescription that is not only strong in it’s visual corrective properties, but also one that results in clear crisp vision both for close up vision as well as for objects far away. As an experienced contact lens wearer, I’ve found that the Surevue brand easily delivers as promised and my ocular health remains rather good at present because of their use. My contacts are in my eyes from the first moment I wake up in the morning until the last minute before I go to bed at night without fail, so I rely on them quite heavily just to be able to comfortably see well every day. So without my Surevue contact lenses, I would be unable to do things like drive a car or watch TV that many other people take for granted on a daily basis.
~~~~Packaging~~~~

Surevue contact lenses with UV protection are individually packaged in a sterile buffered saline solution and come in small boxes of six lenses each. Because I must wear different strengths for each eye, it’s very important for me to keep mine separate at all times. As directed by my eye care professional, I take mine out every night at bedtime and store them in a cleansing solution and replace them on the first day of every month with a new pair. The convenience of always having extra lenses around has come in handy on more than one occasion. For no matter how careful you are, accidents WILL happen sooner or later. One of the best ways to start the day out on the wrong foot is to discover that you’ve ripped or even lost a contact lens without an extra on hand as a spare. So purchasing my Surevue lenses in bulk means that I never have to make an extra trip to my eye doctor to pick up a replacement as I’ve had to do many times in the past.

~~~~Recommended Length of Wear~~~~
Even though I’ve comfortably worn my Surevue lenses for many years now, I learned something new about them today while researching the Acuvue website for this review. These daily wear contact lenses are actually designed to be worn for two weeks at a time and then disposed of instead of for an entire month as recommended to me by my eye care professional. Since I’ve had no problems with the health of my eyes while apparently getting “double mileage” out of my contact lenses, I plan on continuing my current replacement schedule despite this more frequent recommendation of disposal. But I will keep this in mind if a shorter wearing period ever becomes necessary. From experience, my Surevue lens perform very well for 30 days, and sometimes even beyond when I’ve forgotten to replace them on time on occasion.
~~~~Price~~~~

I find it very convenient and affordable to purchase my Surevue contact lenses at a competitive price online at www.1800CONTACTS.com instead of from my eye care professional as I did for many years in the past. Each box containing 6 lenses each currently lists for $19.95 each, or two for $39.90, which is a 6 month supply worn as I do mine. Before my last prescription expired, I purchased another 1 year supply of my Surevue contact lenses and am now down to my last few pair. So even though I cheated a bit by ordering extra pairs online and did not get my last eye examination on schedule like I was supposed to (annually is recommended by most), I still got a great deal on my contacts! But because the health of my eyes is very important to me, I’ll be making that call soon enough to set up that overdue appointment and receive my new prescription.

~~~~Directions for Use~~~~
Always make sure your hands are clean before handling your Surevue contact lenses. Place the small corrective device to the pupil of your eye in the concave position (a lens taking a convex shape will be very uncomfortable and will often move out of place) gently with your fingertip. A correctly positioned contact lens will feel like you have nothing at all in your eye. After removal at bedtime, place your Surevue contact lenses in a labeled storage case and soak them in a multi-purpose cleansing solution overnight or at least 4 hours to remove any protein buildup. Rinse with a saline solution before placing the lens back into your eye the next morning. When dryness is a problem (rarely for me unless I take a nap with mine still in place), some rewetting drops specially made for contact lens wearers can be safely placed into the eye for instant relief. If irritation occurs, cleanse your Surevue contact lens and place it back into your eye. A damaged or uncomfortable lens should then be replaced with a fresh one to decrease the risk of further irritation or possible infection.
~~~~Overall Recommendation~~~~

I have been a satisfied Surevue user for many years now and plan on being one in the future as well. These lenses provide sharp clear vision and are relatively inexpensive in price. The convenience of using disposable lenses decreases the number of cleansing products that must be purchased otherwise. Eyes typically stay healthier because fresh lenses are less likely to cause an infection than older ones often can. These contact lenses are extremely comfortable and virtually undetectable when worn. So put those glasses away for good and ask your eye care professional today if Surevue is right for you. Even those diagnosed with farsightedness and astigmatism can successfully wear contact lenses these days. Often, a free trial pair is just a phone call away.
