Thanks for introducing me to the Avant Browser. I hadn't previously heard of it. This sounds a lot like Maxthon, formerly MyIE2, that I used for a long time and my wife still uses. If you want to stick with IE as the base browser, these are very good options.

I personally switched to Firefox twice, once on version 0.9 or some such number and now with version 1.0.4. I need to update again as they have found holes in the security of this one, showing once again that no browser is completely safe. You may want to give Firefox a shot again if you tried it previous to version 1.0.4, as it does work 'better' in my mind, making the plug-ins easier to access among other things.

Great review!

I use two, Adaware SE Pro and Spybot - Search and Destroy. This is because whatever one misses, ther other picks up. I also use Norton Antivirus, but I am on experimenting with other one's also.

oh, well duh! I run weekly virus and spyware checks, but I haven't thought of doing that after software installation.

I know screensavers are infamous for that, but I guess I'm stuck in IE land, not considering that for browsers.

Thanks for answering my question!

I enjoy your fun and informative reviews.

Well, I have been using this browser for about two years now and it hasn't crashed my computer even once. Just to be sure though, what I did was I disconnected from the Internet and the installed this browser. Then I ran my spyware scanner and antivirus scanner. And fortunately nothing came up. I did all this right after I did a clean install of Windows XP Pro and before I connected to the internet for the first time after that install.

That is why I can say for sure there are not spyware or adware in this browser.

Hey thanks for reading, rating, and commenting. I really appreciate it a lot.

I really enjoy your reviews. Thanks.

Question: How do you know there is not spyware hidden in the browser like you say in your review?

I agree with you about all the hopeless browsers out there!

I have tried Firefox but for some reason I don't like it. I just don't like the feel of it. I don't know why...

Thank you for r/r/c.

Interesting application. (Reply to this comment)

I know that IE is "modular" (COM-based) but do not quite understad what it means when "Avant Browser uses Internet Explorer as its base."

I strongly recommend Firefox (http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/) - it has all or most of the nice features you mention for Avant, and, unlike Avant, it is not tied to IE so should be less susceptible to hostile exploits.
