After extensive research I bought a Canon Digital Rebel XTi. I had immediate problems with it out of the box, with the memory card not seating properly. I returned the camera to Amazon with difficulty.

I bought a Nikon D40x instead, and I am only moderately pleased with it.
The focussing is difficult, and to change the ISO is not a quick process.

The range of lenses available is quite small due to the motor being contained in the lens.

I would buy another camera like the Nikon D300, Canon EOS 50D, Sony Alpha DSL RA350K, or the Olympus Evolt E510 10MP.
