Mothermeatloaf's "DAMneD " Write-Off...

Jul 22 '05

The Bottom Line Remember "I" before "E", except in Budweiser. -- Anonymous. Seriously, don't drink and drive; drink responsibly.

I was just gently encouraged by
MotherMeatloaf to join the Drinking Away Memorial Day Weekend Write-Off, so I am happily doing so. Thank you for the invitation, Mike!

1. What beers/wines/spirits do you currently have in your fridge or cooler, in your cellar, or on your shelf? I have four cans of Bud and four cans of Miller Lite in my fridge. These were passed on to us after attending a retirement party two weeks ago. We aren't beer drinkers so they may still be in the fridge 14 years from now! LOL Actually I've been using them to grill chicken with - ever had "Beer Can Chicken"? YUMMMYYY. We also have about three bottles of Lambrusco wine. This is pretty much the only wine we drink.

2. What b/w/s is widely purchased that you simply cannot understand? Any and all brands of the evil spirits - Gin. It's horrible!

3. What is your favorite food accompaniment? If it's the rare beer, we like to have pizza with it. If we're having Lambrusco, it's best with Italian food, such as Gnocchi col pesto alla genovese Cucina d'Italia, Bistecca alla fiorentina, and Biscotto alla genovese.

4. To which music to you prefer to drink? Music that is calming! Unless we're with a group of friends and then we much prefer more upbeat music - good old Rock 'n Roll.

5. Ever do anything (anyone) you regret after a "tough night" at the cups? Care to elaborate? Many years ago I attended my 10-year High School reunion and I had one too many beers. I ended up singing Karaoke with the wife of one of my classmates and it was, um, well... interesting. One of my other classmates has never let me live it down - my husband teases me mercilessly. It's funny that he even remembers it, as nearly 10 more years had passed before we'd seen each other again. It's a miracle that he finally married me :-)

6. Do you overindulge? No... except for the one time about 6 months ago when I had just a little too much Strawberry Twist vodka. I can't even smell it now without feeling nauseous.

7. Describe your personality before and after and evening of imbibing. Before: Fun, talkative, silly. After: More fun, more talkative, and way, way too silly.

8. What is your favorite watering-hole? Where is it located? Hmmm, there's not a favorite place. I guess that'd be right here at home.

9. Who is the person with whom you most enjoy drinking? My husband, because he keeps me grounded and reminds me of the time that I went to a wedding and (again) had one too many beers and when it was time to leave I walked right up to the bride & groom and instead of telling them what a beautiful wedding they had, I told them that it was the most fun Thanksgiving I had everrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr been to. ::::hiccup:::::

10. From what region of the world does your favorite drink hail? Lambrusco wine is Italian and it is by far my favorite drink.

11. Ever solve the world’s problems while under the influence? If so, what are the answers? I seriously doubt it... unless you count the fact that I'm a fun girl and I can make everyone laugh with my ridiculous antics! lol Laughter brings everyone together, so yeah... the world's problems are temporarily solved during those rare times.

12. Why do members of the opposite sex seem prettier/more handsome after a few? You know, I have no idea. Sometimes that's not the case though... I have found that some people become mean and ugly after a few, so I don't know if it's always a good thing to even try to figure out.

13. When drinking alone (c’mon, admit it), what are your most common ruminations? The only time I drink alone is when I am sipping a glass of wine while cooking dinner and it only tends to remind me of my dear Grandmother and how she swore that sipping one, single glass wine while cooking made the food taste better! LOL I'm not sure about that, but it's something I enjoy.

14. There is a movement to abolish natural cork from the necks of even the most prestigious brews/wines/spirits in favor of synthetic stoppers and – heavens – even screw-on caps. Your thoughts? I just think it'd be sad to get rid of natural corks. It wouldn't be as fun to pop those bottles open :-)

15. When did you have your first drink and what were the circumstances? I was 15 and was at a friend's house for the evening. Her parents were (very) social drinkers and they had a cabinet full of assorted bottles. Peer pressure? That's the worst kind of pressure, but I can only blame myself. Thank God I didn't find any pleasure or joy out of it!

16. Gin - delicious or repugnant? :::shudder::: I cannot stand gin. I'd much rather drink lacquer thinner! Oh wait... that is gin!!

17. Ever blackout or become violently ill as a result of an evening of imbibing? Learn your lesson? I have never blacked out, thank goodness, but I have been ill. Remember the Wedding/Thanksgiving story from above? That "ill" lasted two whole days, and hell yes, I learned my lesson!!!

18. You're an 82 year old Eskimo. You've just been put on an ice floe and pushed out to sea. You were given the opportunity to pack a cooler with one bottle of beer, one bottle of wine, and one bottle of spirits for your final voyage. What did you bring? Eighty-two years old, huh? Wow... okay, I'd bring a can of Bud - with a BBQ grill and a roasting chicken (just so I didn't have to drink the stuff) lol. I'd definitely bring a nice bottle of Lambrusco. I think the spirits would be a bottle of Malibu Rum (does that count?)

19. What is your best friend's drink of choice? Can you dig it? I really don't know, but I can tell you what it isn't... any kind of mint schnapps. Don't even bring it within a 5 mile radius!!! And yes, I can most definitely, no-doubt-about-it wholeheartedly dig it!

20. Are you more of a celebratory drinker or a melancholy drinker? I guess more celebratory than melancholy. I think a melancholy drink is more dangerous in some ways.

21. Do you need a drink now? Yes! Where's the coffee??!! lol
