Why, yes, I do have an Epinion (celebrating with Romasuave)

Jul 23 '05 (Updated Aug 23 '08)

The Bottom Line ....

Writing 100 reviews is quite an accomplishment. Roman has invited us to join in his commemorative celebration with his My Own Personal Epinions Write-Off. He is asking us all to share our milestones as well as our feelings about this little community that we share. This is for you, Roman.

Member Name and meaning behind it (if there is one)

As tempting as it would be to respond that my unfounded reputation for possibly emitting numerous gaseous expulsions led to my member name, that would not be exactly accurate. If that were the case, then I'd be known as Nedipoop, don'tchathink?

The truth of the matter is that the name was first suggested by my son many moons ago. He knew that I tended to hang a "pooh" to the end of every name that I heard. Thus I became Nedipooh. I prefer to think of it in the "Winnie-the" fashion rather than the "What stinks?" fashion.

Date I joined Epinions

My profile page is going to tell you the date November 27, 2000. Indeed, that is the date I officially joined. On that particular day I was visiting my son. He was, and is, an active member. His enthusiasm for the site became contagious and I found myself reading a lot of reviews for the next day or so. When I returned home, though, I forgot all about it.

It would be over 2 years before I visited Epinions again. In February of 2003 I posted my very first essay in the Writers Corner.

How I stumbled upon Epinions

I believed I just answered that. You can blame it on my son, Flamepillar. It's all his fault, I tell ya.

Number of member visits

Today, Saturday the 23rd of July (Happy Birthday, Sis!!!) it rests at 11,311.

Number of total visits

It appears to be 83,733. Gracious, that's a lot of folks. Makes me feel like someone has been peeking through my curtains.

My very first review (with link and description)

The first time that I posted on Eps was a personal essay which has long since been deleted due to changes in my personal life. My first actual review was in music. It covered one of my still favorite CDs Melt, by Rascal Flatts.

The 3 favorite reviews that I've written (with links)

My favorite postings are not actually reviews, but essays in the Writers Corner. These are the ones that I am most willing to share with friends and family. I've been written out of a few wills because of them, but, hey, that's neither here nor there.

One of them deals with the terrible tragedy that occurred after a day of indulging in boiled peanuts and beer. You can read it right here.

Next in line would be my tribute to the lowly Dustball.

My favorite essays, though, have been the song parodies. Skeeter has been the inspiration for a couple of them found here and again here.

Without a doubt, though, my favorite parody was written after a long day at work. All I had to do was come home, throw a little Beatles on the stereo and unclasp those hooks. Read it if you dare.

My most complete review

As much as I have enjoyed writing about movies, I honestly believe that my most thorough reviews have been for some small appliances. The one for my meat slicer was probably the most detailed.

My most successful Write-Off (If I wrote one, include link)

I have yet to host a Write-Off. I've batted around a few ideas. For instance, I considered inviting everyone to write a review of a movie with a real dog. It would be a challenge given the fact that most films only feature the most attractive of women.

Favorite W/O I participated in (with link)

Without hesitation I enjoyed Vodkaboys' Invite an Epinionator for a Drink more than any other. The deal was that you invited someone out and it was their choice where to go. I had such a good time with it that by the time it was over, I had interviewed 4 people. Those people have all become very near and dear to my heart since that time.

One of my "dates" was my son (who of course, was dear to my heart long before the write-off). He chose for us to meet at a bowling alley. Feisty, adorable Lori didn't care where we met, so we decided to just get sloshed. Dear, sweet Katy wanted some peace and quiet with a lot of girl-talk, so we parked ourselves on a balcony, overlooking the beach. And last, but definitely not least, was the fellow that has become my dearest friend, Haggis. He captured my heart when he took me fishing and hasn't let go of it yet.

My most lucrative review (with link and $$$ earned)

I seriously considered retiring when I checked to see how much money I had made on the post that had my highest hit count at 6,190, My Top Ten Movies. You don't make a whole $11.76 every day. Reality set in, though, when I spotted that the earnings on the review with my second highest hit count of 4,836 was sitting there with a lowly penny. That was for my sausage balls recipe. It really should have earned the $11.76 because that's about how much it costs to purchase the ingredients for the darn things.

Things I like most about Epinions

As much as I like to joke around, quite seriously, it is the people that I've met here. We are blessed to have a wonderful group of folks. There is always going to be a sour pickle in any community, that's just life. Fortunately, we have very few of those.

Also, as a lover of movies, the reviews help me so much when I'm deciding which film I want to see. They're more detailed and personal than other review sites that I've visited.

Things I dislike most about Epinions

Along with some of the other participants in this W/O, I have to agree with the hidden negative ratings. I've been blessed to have avoided them for the most part. But often I have spotted them on reviews that certainly did not deserve them.

Members I admire most on Epinions

Oh, gosh. How long have you got? There are so many.

At the top of the list would have to be Sue. This gal is what I wish I could be. Her reviews are without flaw, she's tremendously funny, and to top it all off, she's the Beav's Mom. It ain't fair, I tell ya, it just ain't fair.

And of course there is Metalluk. He consistently writes amazing reviews that he mixes a great deal of detail into, without becoming boring. My list of "movies to watch" has grown rather long thanks to this man.

As tempting as it is to continue with this list, I'm going to stop right here.

My ultimate goal at Epinions

Gracious, one of my goals would have to be to simply be able to visit it more often and participate more regularly. In recent months, that's been quite a challenge. My ultimate goal, though, would have to be to write an entire review while standing on my head with my right hand tied behind my back, blindfolded. Ya'll may have to wait a while for that one.

Thanks for letting me join in, Roman!

8-)
