I do not know what other people consider as expensive but I certainly consider these speakers to be expensive. They do offer very good sound for the outdoors and you do not have to worry about them being damaged from weather, wheter it be cold and wet or hot and dry, these speakers will perform for you. It just seems to me that they cost a lot of money. If you want to have music outside though these are the speaker to buy. They are relatively easy to mount on the outside wall of your home or they can be hung using a different type of mounting bracket. Anyways, they are a good sounding speaker for the outdoors that will provide great music in any conditions, just be ready to spend the dough.
