So I wrote 100 of these too!

The Bottom Line Go Us!

To commemorate Romasuave's 100th review (and doggone it my own 100th was posted just a couple of weeks ago too.), I decided to jump on the bandwagon and participate in my first write-off.

Member Name and meaning behind it (if there is one

Bartzone’s my member name and it’s kind of a play on my last name—Barton. I usually use Bartonz for my screen name, but it was already taken, so I played around with it till I came up with this moniker.

Date I joined Epinions

June 17. 2000, the day before my 23rd wedding anniversary.

How I stumbled upon Epinions

My sister told me about it. I was writing essays and poems on a website that has since disintegrated (Themestream) and a lot of my buddies (and my sister) there were writing here too. They were a lively crew and I still see a few of them here at Epinions.

My very first review (with link and description)

Sigh…it’s gone. My first reviews were pretty lame, so last year I played havoc with the delete button. I could probably still get rid of (or rewrite) a whole handful. One of my oldest surviving review is Give Me MyPoints. I’ll be updating it soon because a) it’s truly a shabby review, b) their site has changed, and c) my opinion has changed after lo these many years. If you read it in its present state, please be gentle. I didn’t know then what I know now about writing helpful reviews (and as I said—I promise to rewrite it soon.).

The 3 favorite reviews that I’ve written (with links

1. Naughty Surfing on eBay - OR - How to Add Fun to Your Marriage Opinion on eBay
2. Every Citizen Should Read This Book Opinion on A Patriot's Handbook: Songs, Poems, Stories and Speeches Celebrating the Land We Love
3. A Dreamy Movie Opinion on What Dreams May Come

I like #1 because by the time I wrote my review there were thousands of decent regular reviews of the site and I took a different tack.

#2 is a classic because I think it’s a good review about a book I really care about and it gets a lot of non-member views (compared to any of my others), so maybe people are joining Epinions because of it.

#3 is my first really good movie review. I put a lot of work into reviewing a movie that touched me deeply.

My most complete review

I always think my newest review is the best I’ve written. When I write each review, I think I’ve been as complete as possible and then I learn that there is always more that I can write. My intention is always to give the reader as much information as possible to make a choice to read, listen to, eat, or use. Sometimes though, obvious information slips right by and comments from Epinions members help me get my review up to speed.

My most successful Write-Off (If I wrote one, include link)

I’ve never written one.

Favorite W/O I participated in (with link)

This is my first!

My most lucrative review (with link and $$$ earned)

ELPH or ELF? Opinion on Canon Elph 370Z APS Point and Shoot Camera

This one has earned me $26.88 over the years.

Things I like most about Epinions

I love having the ability to search out products and services and see what everyday people like me thought of them. I was recently in the market for a digital camera and many of you may have noticed my ratings on what you had to say. Your reviews truly made a difference in the choice I made.

Things I dislike most about Epinions

People who spend energy stirring up pots instead of reviewing items and honestly rating reviews.

Members I admire most on Epinions

There are so many members who write reviews that are well thought out, entertaining, and most especially, well written. I hate having to figure out what somebody really meant when their review is littered with typos and grammatical mistakes. Some of the exemplary reviewers include but are definitely not limited to: bryan_carey (I read his beer reviews and I don’t even drink the stuff! I); quasar (I live for the day when I get a VH from her.); Gaelkm (Her travel reviews take me to so many cool places.); stephen_murray (He puts so much background info into his film reviews! Where does he find the time?).

My ultimate goal at Epinions

My goal at Epinions (like most writers)is to be heard. In order to accomplish that, I strive to write balanced, informative, entertaining, inspiring reviews that help other people make choices for themselves as well as reach out and read other reviews to make connections with people who would otherwise never hear of me or read my reviews.
