*****HE SHOOTS.....HE SCORES!***** puckmugger’s 2nd Annual Sports W/O

Jul 26 '05

The Bottom Line is trying really hard to become the top line

Scott, AKA puckmugger has graciously invited me to join in his 2nd annual W/O about sports. I am a big sports freak and I feel this will be a good one to join. My hat’s off to you Scott for your 300th review!

1. What are your favorite sports to watch on television?

Of the ones I watch religiously, or anyway did before my son was born are basketball, tennis, and I used to watch soccer (AKA football to the rest of the world) when I lived in Europe, only get to watch the World Cup here in the States

2. How often do you watch sports on television?

Not as much as I used to (see above). It really depends on the time of year and what sports are taking place at the time, since most are seasonal. I like to watch many sports right before the championship round so I get to see the best teams or players compete.

3. What are your favorite sports to watch live?

Even though I like basketball I don’t like to see it live because I sense fans rarely get too hyped up about it except for playoff time. The one time I went to a hockey game (inaugural game at Staples center, 99, Kings vs Bruins) I had a blast because Hockey fans are rowdy and excitable ALL the time, it’s fun, fast paced and exciting to watch.

4. How many live sporting events do you typically attend annually?

I try to catch a basketball game once in a while (tickets for Laker games are ridiculously priced and the Clippers suck) but as my son grows older I’d like to take him to tennis matches and basketball games, or whatever sports he we be into.

5. What organized team sports have you ever participated in previously?

In Jr. High we had such a limited number of players for the basketball team, anyone could join, I remember playing a pick up game with the team players, I stole the ball from the best player and scored on a fast break, that one action landed me a spot on the team. My senior year in high school I joined a community basketball league, we were the Blazers and 15/16 year old kicked our butts, but in all fairness, we were white and couldn’t jump!

6. What organized individual sports have you participated in previously?

I dabbled a bit in tennis in high school, it wasn't really organized, just messing around and losing a few calories.

7. What pick-up sports have you participated in previously?

Basketball all the time in my late teens, just love the sport. When I was a kid I was the best soccer goalie in my neighborhood and I loved to kick some balls around, now it’s my wife’s turn ;)

8. What sports or outdoor activities do you currently participate in?

Raising a baby, does that count??

9. How often?

Constantly!

10. Is there any sport that you wish you could participate in now?

Just go back to the normal sports I used to play, hoops, soccer, tennis, maybe take up golf, and since my son enjoys swimming maybe some pool time.

11. What’s keeping you from doing it?

Y’all know, don’t wanna sound like a broken record, when he’s a bit older we could do it together.

12. If your fairy godmother was going to give you all the skill and a job in pro sports, what sport would you play?

Well, I did think of becoming a physical therapist at one point, and a sports therapist not only makes the big bucks, he can really make a difference in a player’s performance by loosening him/her up. I would love to be Maria Sharapova’s personal masseuse ;). If you mean an actual athlete I would say point guard for the Lakers, Magic has been my idol forever and he ran the team, I want that opportunity.

13. What team and position (if relevant)?

See #12

14. What beer would you promote as a sports celebrity? (OK, that was just to make certain Bruguru, Marty and Fuche participate)

The beers I usually drink are pretty lame (sorry beer reviewers) like Bud Light, Dos XX and Rolling Rock, so I guess any one of those.

15. What brand would you promote?

Probably Adidas (never liked Nike). If I were to invent a new product and promote the product it would be called “FingerJock”, the jock strap with built in fingers that wiggle right when you need itch relief.

16. Do you have any sports heroes? Who are they and why are they your heroes?

Magic Johnson, not only one of the most exciting hoopsters ever, one of the greatest players and a survivor, living with HIV for 14 years and still going strong. Right now it would have to be Lance Armstrong, defeating multiple cancers to win the most grueling sport known to man, the Tour De France a 7th straight year, the man is not human!

17. If you could invent a new sport, no matter how absurd, what would it be?

Either Rubber Ball Diving, jumping off a springboard 3 meters high into the multi colored fun rubber balls the kids play in, or just combine any 2 activities, one athletic, one everyday activity to form a sport, like running 100 meter sprint then sitting to have a civilized dinner with family (Dinner Sprint), or swimming 800 meter freestyle then doing your taxes (Taxwimming), the one to finish first and saves the most will be the winner.
