Molicare Super Plus Adult diaper--the best of the best!

Written: Sep 28 '08 (Updated Sep 28 '08)
The Bottom Line: If you seek a diaper than won't leak and is discreet, this is for you.  If you are worried about bulk, then try it out, but its thick!

Molicare Super Plus Brief (AKA Classic Super Brief, AKA Original Briefs, NOT T-Shaped, or Plus briefs or daytime Briefs):

This brief comes in 2 sizes, Small, or Medium/Large. Both have the same features and same high absorbancy.

ABSORBENCY
This diaper is one of the most absorbent adult diapers available in the USA )! The other diapers that compare to the Molicare Super Plus are the Abena X-plus, Secure X-Plus and Tena Night Super. This diapers high absorbancy is what offsets its high price-you don't have to change this diaper anywhere near as often as other diapers.

BULK
This diaper is bulky-a diaper has to be to lock in wetness. If you don't want absorbency then why are you wearing diapers! The padding in this diaper is very thick and when you first take the diaper out of the package-very "hard". So before you put the diaper on, I recommend that you grasp each side of the diaper and "rub" it back and forth to "fluff" out the padding. This does 2 things, one it makes the padding feel softer and less "hard" or inflexible and two, it fluffs up the padding so it absorbs faster (note-it also makes the padding thicker, so if you are looking to be dicreet-then put up with the hard feeling as it will keep the diaper thinner)

FIT
The tapes on this diaper are one of its worst features. They do not stick well and are only somewhat refastenable. They use a double taping concept that only works if you wish to refasten the diaper in the original taping location. Once they correct this deficiency this will be an unbeatable diaper.

COMFORT
Although a thirsty diaper, the stay dry lining could be a little better. I seem to get a little more diaper rash in this diaper even though it can hold a ton. Perhaps this is because I wear them longer than most diapers...but when I compare this to Tena/Promise, they feel dryer and I get fewer rashes. Also, the waistband is not very stretchy so gapping and ability to pull up and down with a snug fit is not very good.

LOOKS
Hiding these diapers is not as easy as most. They are VERY bulky and are purple and white striped (large size), so if they ever peek out of your pants, they won't look like underwear. As for the bulk, you won't be wearing thin pants or short shorts while in this diaper as the bulk is very noticeable. Also, as they are purple in color (with stripes) thinner white pants/shorts are out of the question unless you think that purple striped underwear are common place. Also, as this diaper gets wet, it gets thicker and thicker and thus more noticable. Be sure you tape this diaper on securely as the wetter it gets the more it will tend to sag (like any diaper).

NOISE
The outer plastic backing is pretty quiet as far as adult diapers go. They are not as quiet as the Tena/Promise cloth covered diapers, but are FAR MORE discreet than Depends! I rarely notice the tell tale diaper crinkling while wearing them, but it is there. While the Tena cloth covered diapers are almost impossible to hear. Changing these in a public restroom will cause the plastic to crinkle, so it is hard to hide that.

PRICE
These will be the most expensive diapers you can find, but since they require changing MUCH MUCH less, the cost balances out. Don't buy these if you plan on changing your diaper every 3 hours....expect it to be 6 hours! These are the prices from HDIS (link towards the bottom), but you can find get a discount if you put in a standing order (this includes shipping). I included the pricing for the T-Shaped briefs, which are a lesser absorbancy version of this diaper--

Molicare Large Super Plus Briefs 56/Cs $102.95
Molicare Medium Super Plus Briefs 56/Cs $92.95
Molicare Small Super Plus Briefs 56/Cs $64.95

The less absorbant and thinner version pricing is as follows:
Molicare Super T-Shape Briefs Large(84/case) $129.95
Molicare Super T-Shape Briefs Med(84/case) $119.95
Molicare Super T-Shape Briefs Small(84/case) $88.95

SIZING
Molicare has been changing their sizing, so I'm not sure what they've done to sizing lately-I've been using the Large briefs (I'm a 38 inch waist). I have a 38 inch waist and have fit into the medium in the past (again-not sure if they are still the same size), but the large fits me better. The medium tends to ride below my hips and thus is harder to prevent sagging when very wet-although it is much more discreet and easy to hide than the large, so you might consider it for that reason. I'd say at 38 inches I am about the largest you can go and fit into a medium.
