The Bottom Line Congratulations Romasuave!

I remember my first 100 and subsequently my 5th. The 6th is taking its due time! Here is my entry into Romasuave's celebration.

Member Name and meaning behind it (if there is one)

Lynus. In my Freshperson at UCSC I used to carry around a blanket from time to time so I got nicknamed Lynus. I preferred to spell it with a “y” than an “i”.

Date I joined Epinions

October 15, 1999.

How I stumbled upon Epinions

I was working for the Internet site Infoseek (which later became Go.com) and they wanted their content developers to have Internet accounts at multiple dotcom’s to get a feel for the content available on the Internet. Since Epinions began its database with entertainment content such as movies – I signed up.

Number of member visits

26,448.

Number of total visits

264,994 I’ve always been a little dismayed that the two numbers aren’t closer to one another.

My very first review (with link and description)

It was on the combination of two very powerful companies in the San Francisco Bay Area which are all now but gone. AT&T@Home @Home sold itself to Excite (or was it the other way around) and after building a really nice looking building off of the 101 @Home ceased operations. AT&T had their cable operations on their own but then sold out to Comcast.

The 3 favorite reviews that I’ve written (with links)

The Humanity of Socks
The Eminem Show
The Obstruction & Drunk Review of Bud Light

The Humanity of Socks isn’t a review per se but it is a funny reminder of some of the crazy things one could easily find in the Epinions database. Epinions’ has done a good job these days at preventing such oddities and closed old ones so no new contributions could be added – but it was fun while it lasted.

The Eminem Show could have qualified as my most complete review for I did actually take the time and count each and every swear word said throughout the album. It was something I just had to do for my own curiosity.

The Obstruction & Drunk Review of Bud Light was another challenge for I had normally missed previous “drunken reviewing” write-offs. I like myself for my crazy creativeness – and found that I do really like Bud Light.

Funny - I couldn't pinpoint my favorite film review.

My most complete review

Ford Focus ZX3 – I consider this my most complete (or someday will be complete) review for I continue to update it every 5,000 miles or so.

My most successful Write-Off (If I wrote one, include link)

By far my most successful write-off has been the first Let’s See You Review This! My contribution can be found here. The premise was to first get a list of participants, then pair them up by first come first choosing, and finally, each person would pick a movie for the other to review. Some choices were done out of interest, some were to challenge another, some were to be mean – but the entire idea behind it was…“let’s see YOU review this!”

Favorite W/O I participated in (with link)

The challenge to think about perhaps one of my least favorite characters in the alphabet K.

My most lucrative review (with link and $$$ earned)

I was a little shocked by this...but my $139 Phillips DVD/VCR Player has made back $53.08.

Things I like most about Epinions

I love to share my ideas with the masses but I have found it harder to do that lately. Part of it is a very, very, very bad case of writers block but a big chunk of it is I’m having a really hard time concentrating on my writing. I start a review but can’t get my fingers to write something that I like. But Epinions will also be to me a place to share ideas, likes/dislikes, and I hope it never goes away.

Things I dislike most about Epinions

The constant issues with certain characters. If you use Microsoft Word to write your reviews, certain characters that Microsoft Word creates are not quite pure ASCII and at times Epinions has problems with these characters replacing them with odd characters such as blackened triangle question marks. I found quite a few of them plaguing some of my older reviews like a virus.

Members I admire most on Epinions

I’ve played the name game enough at Epinions so far – but I will say “members I admire the most” are those who write in imaginative ways that upon reading their prose they take me into their imaginations.

My ultimate goal at Epinions

To make it to another Meet-N-Greet sometime.
To write more than one thing in a month, not counting write-offs.
To make Top Reviewer again but won’t expect that till I start writing again.
To help Epinions continue to be great in their new endeavor with eBay.
