The Bottom Line The bottom line is sitting on her big behind.
It's summertime and I should be outdoors doing something, instead of sitting at the computer doing this. However, I decided to join in Puckmugger's sports W/O, thinking perhaps I'd get motivated (or perhaps I'll pinch my waist and decide it's a lost cause!) 1. What are your favorite sports to watch on television? I'm a chick so of course I like gymnastics and ice skating. 2. How often do you watch sports on television? Not too often. We have basic cable so thank goodness I'm not tempted to watch sports 24-7. 3. What are your favorite sports to watch live? I normally would say Basketball. I attended Oregon State back when their B-Ball team was very hot (AC Green was the star then) and it was the only thing us poor college students could look forward to. Of course living in Portland I had the chance to see the Blazers once in a while. Now I live in San Jose where all they have is hockey (boring!) I used to watch Men's Beach Volleyball a lot on TV with my husband. I just saw some the other day and I forgot how much I was missing. Yummy! 4. How many live sporting events do you typically attend annually? Other than my sons' events, not any. I think I saw an NBA game when I first moved to San Jose over 12 years ago. Pathetic, huh? I would like to see the Grand Prix event this weekend in San Jose, but it's going to be a zoo, so I'm staying away. 5. What organized team sports have you ever participated in previously? Hmmm, track? I did participate in the 4X100 relay. I was good offensively in b-ball, but the stronger, more muscular chicks plowed me over on defense, so I didn't make the cut. 6. What organized individual sports have you participated in previously? Cross country and track (100, 200, long jump). I learned to run fast by keeping away from my brothers. 7. What pick-up sports have you participated in previously? None. I just pick up after my kids. 8. What sports or outdoor activities do you currently participate in? I continued running for nearly 20 years after high school and my knees paid the price. Now I just like to take walks. I refuse to rollerblade with my sons and husband. And I'm glad I don't--my husband is foolhardy risk taker and he recently injured his shoulder rollerblading, for which he had to have surgery. 9. How often? I should do it every day but it's usually every other day. 10. Is there any sport that you wish you could participate in now? I used to ice skate and I loved it. Likewise I really miss running. The last major event I did was the Hood to Coast relay in Oregon about 14 years ago. It's an all-day team event that starts at Timberline on Mt. Hood and ends at Seaside on the Oregon Coast. I ran 3 times (about 5 miles a leg) including first leg through a scary part of Portland in middle of night. It was a ton of fun. 11. What's keeping you from doing it? See answer #8 12. If your fairy godmother was going to give you all the skill and a job in pro sports, what sport would you play? Basketball 13. What team and position (if relevant)? Portland Trailblazers. Team mom and disciplinarian. Those bad boys need a whooping. No more Jail-blazers! 14. What beer would you promote as a sports celebrity? (OK, that was just to make certain Bruguru, Marty and Fuche participate) Henry Weinhardt. Good ole Oregon swill. 15. What brand would you promote? Nike, of course. Oregon brand, again. My first running shoes were Kenya Reds. Damn, I looked fine in them. 16. Do you have any sports heroes? Who are they and why are they your heros? Gary Hall, Junior. Despite his showmanship, he's a bad a*s swimmer and he has diabetes. As my son has diabetes too and an aspiring swimmer, I know how hard it can be to train with this disease. He has done a ton of work for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, too. 17. If you could invent a new sport, no matter how absurd, what would it be? When I was growing up my brothers and I played Nine Lives with a Frisbee instead of a ball and more often than not, the ground was wet and muddy. It was fun and painful at the same time.
