The Bottom Line ------------------------------------------------------------ There's your bottom line!

Well, once again, I stumbled upon a sweet write-off how I usually do: a member I like did it first and I randomly checked his profile (in this case, smarterthan3). Although this might be really hard, considering how many scenes I have to think up…

Opening Credits: The Spy Hunter-Project 86
Come on, it’s only the best opener EVER! The metallic riff in the beginning is unbeatably awesome. Any action (or generally angry) movie should use this song. Andrew Schwab’s shouts in the chorus kick major butt: “We caught you plotting murder/ and now the tide is turning/ we’ll light our souls, heat our bones/ upon your empire burning…”…You cannot beat this as far as openers go.

Waking Up: The Blue Note-UnderOATH
Waking up is a slow, dull thing for me (I lay in bed for a few minutes or twenty). This is a slow, boring song. And something about it sounds sleepy, like me until SportsCenter is on tv.

Average Day: Across Waters Again-blindside
I need this band in my soundtrack a lot. I don’t particularly love this song, but there’s something about it that sounds like an average day for me, like the lyrics: “One of those days where you learn to fly/ with broken wings/ my thoughts are on an airplane home/ while my feet are still on the ground…” Something about it sounds like an average day of mine.

First Date: This is a Call-Thousand Foot Krutch
It’s not really a love-type song, but it does sound like one. The mellow guitar, the sad-yet-hopeful lyrics, and general mellowness combine to make a song that’d easily fit in the background for this type of scene. The chorus is definitely the most fitting part: “And she’s calling out to you/ this is a call, this is a callout/ cause every time I fall down/ I reach out to you…” Odd, but fitting.

Falling In Love: She Cries-East West
I need this song in here; it was the ballad that first made me like ballads. It’s a great little love song with plenty of raw emotion, not to mention Mike Tubbs’s amazing vocals and lyrics: “Can’t you see, I won’t leave / but you have to open your eyes/ here I stand, take my hand/ let go of the fear that you hold…” Amazing. It must be in my soundtrack.

Love Scene: Let You Go-East West
Speaking of East West ballads…actually, this one is better. It’s so gorgeous. The lyrics and instrumentals are so sweet and sad. The whole thing is so dazzling: “Through the years we shared the tears/ that saved us from the yesteryears/ we made the sacrifice of time, but never feeling left behind…” Perfect love scene song right here.

Fight Scene: Southtown-POD
This song has left the spotlight since Satellite was released, but it still rocks my socks. The riffs never seem to end and Sonny Sandoval sounds so rough: “Here in the Southtown, you know that kid don’t play/ put it down in the street, will I see another day/ if I make it back this time, got to hold what is mine/ and thank God that I made it alive…” I don’t know why, but it’s got “fight scene” written all over it.

Breaking Up:The Art Of Breaking-Thousand Foot Krutch
While this album was less than perfect, this was one of its best songs. Even though it's more about coming back together than breaking up, it does sound like it'd fit there (musically, anyway). The line "Are you gonna run away and leave me here alone..." solidifies my reasoning.

Getting Back Together: Will You-POD
For a while, this was my favorite POD song, just for its riffs and awesome chorus. The whole story is about a couple getting back together, so it fits perfectly. And that chorus: “Will you, will you love me tomorrow/ so will you, will you stay with me today…” Brilliance. The whole song rocks my socks.

Secret Love: Molotov-Dead Poetic
Pretty much, this song is about what the chorus says: “So light it up and let it fly away/ a Molotov cocktail, my dreams symbolized in flames…” A secret love is a sort of dreamy thing right?...actually, this is here because I think it fits better musically. There’s something about this song’s mood and music that makes it fit here. You’ve got to hear it to get it.

Life’s OK: Reinventing Your Exit-UnderOATH
There are a few songs that make me happy for no reason at all. This is one of them. The sheer, undiluted punky joy of this song is just unmatched. You can not not sing along with Spence Chamberlain on this track: “This is the way I should have done things/ up against the wall, up against the wall/ you got me up against your wall!” Sweetness.

Mental Breakdown :I Don’t Feel Very Receptive Today-UnderOATH
Put it this way-when I think of mental breakdowns, I think of people going insane. When I think of people going insane, I think of screaming. Since there are only two or so non-screamed words in this track, it fits. And then there are the lyrics: “I feel like cutting it open tonight, tonight, yeah/ and falling on the floor…I feel like wringing it dry tonight…”etc, etc. If you put it in the right kind of mental breakdown and use the right parts of the song, this is a very fitting song.

Driving: Get Your Riot Gear-Five Iron Frenzy
FIF used to be one of my favorite bands, and even now, it’s hard to deny their legacy (they called it quits in 2003). Their brand of comedic ska is just so sweet and this particular song is madly catchy. While the verses are quiet and fueled by a vaguely jazzy instrumental piece, the chorus is incomparably catchy: “Go and get your riot gear/ swing your girlie all around/ we’ll be dancing on the cinders/ as the town is burning down…” It is so awesome! And the guitar and trumpet solos in the bridge never hurt. What a great band…pity they’re done.

Learning A Lesson:What it is To Burn-Finch
Oh my gosh I LOVE this song more than any song ever written. This could be the closer or death scene song, but it’s going to fit here. Everything in this song is perfect: vocals, lyrics, instrumentals, mood…oh man. I don’t know exactly why, but this does sound like a good lesson song. It’s just so bitter! “I’m falling faster down to earth/ she’s the only one who knows/ what it is to burn…” Yeah, this one works here.

Deep Thought:Closure-East West
Once again, I must give props to the most underrated band of our time, East West, and this is the most underrated song by said band, not to mention one of the best. The instrumental phrase in the bridge is what really makes this a thinking song, not to mention the mind-bending lyrics: “Taking comfort in loathing/ it’s where we used to play anyway…what you can say is only half of what you mean…”. It’s a flat-out great song.

Flashback:Dimmer Light-Dead Poetic
This is actually my least favorite DP song, but it is growing on me and there’s something about it that would really fit in this role. (Well, the verses would anyway.) The simple guitar, the mellow, catchy feel of the whole thing just belongs here. Something about it feels flashbacky until the chorus, but besides that, it’s just deserving of this spot. I have very little idea why.

Partying: Rock the Party (Off the Hook)-POD
Another song that’s gotten less popular recently as POD produced more famous songs. I tried to think of a rap song I actually would like to hear at a party and decided to settle for rapcore instead. There’s definitely a lot of hip-hop in this song, like the oft-used turntables and the insanely catchy lyrics: “Hey DJ won’t you play that song/ and we’ll keep dancin’ till the break of dawn/ keep it live like the way it should/ ain’t nobody gettin’ crazy so you know it’s all good…” That’s good enough for my party!

Happy Dance: Pink Tux To the Prom(In Love With the 80s)-Relient K
While I’ve never been a big RK fan (being biased against punk bands as I am and always quick to point out overrated bands), these guys are good at making dance-type songs. One of the funniest songs by a Christian band happens to be written by these guys and it also is danceable (Sadie Hawkins Dance), but that’s too overrated and not fitting for a soundtrack. This is more fitting and pretty much just as good a song. The dorky 80’s synthesizers bounce in and out as RK reflects (laments?) over how he fell in love with the decade that I wish never happened.

Regretting: Numb-Linkin Park
While many consider this band overrated, I don’t really struggle with that thought since I heard 38th Parallel, a near clone of this band, before LP. I really like this song. It’s really emotional and the vocals are impressive, and the lyrics are all about regretting things. I’m really getting addicted to LP, and this song is one I’m particularly stuck on.

Long Night Alone: Breakdown in ¾-Project 86
P86 is a master of writing angry, depressing songs without getting profane or predictable. This is one of their angriest pieces as well of their best. And the lyrics… “Sleep softly, knowing that we are through/ the spotlight has turned its favor from us and now it’s upon you…outdated, forgotten, we’re yesterday’s obsolete…” …are incredible. And if I was spending a long night alone after a girl dumped me, I’d probably be calling myself expendable. As a matter of fact, I sometimes do anyway…

Death Scene: Glass in the Trees-Dead Poetic
This song is so fantastic; it must be in my soundtrack. It’s not the softest song, but it is definitely depressing. The whole song is about mourning over someone’s death, people! And whenever Brandon Rike is singing, it’s gotta be good. But don’t forget the lyrics: “I took a vow to never forget you/ if you’re still here then we’re waiting/ we’ll wait for you to come back home…” Sweet-ness!

Closing Credits: Faith, Love, and Happiness-Thousand Foot Krutch
This has to be the song that I relate to the best. Everything is so depressing, so pleading, so much like my life. The desperateness of this song somehow makes it a great closer. I have to give this song its deserved credit. And for your enjoyment, I’ll give a sample of the undeniably awesome lyrics: “Every which way you turn you’ve got/ the sound of a million voices/ every single move you make/ is torn by a million cynics…” The only reason this isn’t the absolutely perfect song of all time is it’s fairly short, but as I listen to it again, I’m considering giving it my rare 100% score. But you don’t care about that, right?

Well, there you go. I’m done. I have pretty much nothing left to say except this very important, necessary message: HOCKEY’S BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! IT’S FLYERS TIME!!!
