When your kid draws in pen on your new couch, turn to Resolve Foam

Written: Oct 04 '08 (Updated Oct 04 '08)
Pros:Saved my brand new couch from pen ink masterpiece.
Cons:

$6.99 for a can & it gets used up quick with kids, pets, etc.

The Bottom Line: Thank you.

I have 2 kids, 2 dogs, 2 cats and 1 husband in a house with mixed flooring but a lot of wall to wall carpet. I usually have a can of this Resolve High Traffic Foam on hand for the inevitable incedents (poop, puke, pee, spilled juice, you name it - its happened). As a carpet cleaner goes - this one gets the job done. I have tried a few different brands and usually return to buying this one - more out of habit than anything. Its not the cheapest at over $5 a can but I find that it works and doesn't have an offensive smell. For a time I switched to the Wal-Mart brand and I found that it absolutely failed in the scent department, back to Resolve.

Resolve High Traffic Foam is for carpets and upholstery and can be used for spot treatment or cleaning a whole rug. The bright red can contains pressurized foam that looks like whip cream so definitely keep this out of the hands of kids. I have a few other things I'd like to keep out of the hands of my kids too - like pens.

Why I am now worshipping Resolve Cleaner and Banishing Ink Pens

We've had illness go through our house this past week. First my son and then my baby girl. While I've used Resolve Foam many a time to clean up throw-up and 'didn't quite make it to the potty on time' too many times to count, this week though the kids were sick I was spared these pleasantries. And then yesterday happened. My 3 year old daughter was not feeling well and I was with her while she sobbed in the bathroom - poor baby. I came out of the bathroom to find my 7 year old son (who has autism) had drawn in pen all over the arm of my brand new (1 week old) couch. Now, what he had drawn was completely a masterpiece. But, his choice of the light brown upholstery of the sofa for the canvas - Bad Choice. I fumed. I cried. My kids looked at me with horror because they knew it was not good. This was one of those "We can never have nice things" moments.

I turned to the University of Google and started searching for what could take ink out of the upholstery. I found sites that claimed to use hairspray, vinegar, windex cleaner, laundry detergent. I had all of these things in my home and I didn't grab them. Why? Because I've set stains in before by these types of science experiments. With the fact that it was on the entire arm of the couch and completely visible all I had was images of the blue ink smeared everywhere instead of removing it. I decided to try the carpet cleaner out since I was fairly certain it wouldn't ruin anything - I was just skeptical it would do anything at all.

The directions on Resolve state to perform a test first to make sure that it doesn't discolor the upholstery or rug. I didn't do a test. I've been using this product for years and thankfully have yet to encounter a problem with it. I ordered the kids to back away and aimed the can at the arm of my sofa. I let it sit for a few minutes and then I rubbed away the foam with a wet washcloth. The artwork was still there, darn it. I texted my husband again to curse that the Resolve didn't work. Then I turned back to the arm of my sofa (which was slightly damp from the cleaner) and I noticed something. The ink was fading. Doggonit! So, I tried the resolve again and sure enough it took the ink out with essentially no scrubbing, no big deal.

The ink is gone.
My brand new sofa still looks brand new.
Resolve High Traffic Foam saved my day!

I will continue to buy Resolve High Traffic Foam for my carpets and upholstered surfaces. I'm sold.

Note: My 22 oz can of Resolve High Traffic Foam states "new formula! for deeper clean"
