My name is Bev, and I was an Epinions Addict.

The Bottom Line I've conquered my Ep's addiction, now can someone help me with Pogo?

Here’s my entry to Jonnie's "Are You Addicted" Write-off located at http://www.epinions.com/content_4466188420. I’ve been away for a very long time, and this write-off was good for “dipping my toe in” and checking out my writing temperature. Hopefully sentence structure and lucidity are still intact!

1. Once you heard about epinions, did you join?

No, it took me about a year to join. A dear friend was writing at eps very regularly, in fact, she was semi-addicted herself. I’d read her reviews, and be impressed by her ability to write, never considering that I would have anything of value or credibility to say. (Can you say “low self-esteem”? Read some of my earlier editorials and you’ll understand why.)

2. Once you joined, did the "wheels start turning" and the writer in you emerge?

I’ve always been a writer, since I was old enough to print, in fact. I used to write stories and “books” with my friends, typed on an old typewriter every night during junior high and high school, writing some of the funniest stories…. wish I had kept them! It turned into quite an ego boost, coming to epinions. Even though my first review wasn’t really much of anything, the kindness of the community and the caring way they offered help and advice, and of course the way they rated me helpful and very helpful, well, that was the push that kept me going. I started needing more and more of that egoboo and….

3. Do you find yourself sleeping less?

Less and less sleep lol! Perhaps that’s one of the reasons I now sleep between 3 and 4 hours a night…nowhere near enough for me to function well. Even though I’ve been away so long, I’ve found it hard to get back to any semblance of a “normal” routine.

4. Have you called in sick at work or quit your job altogether?

Didn’t have a “job” as such when I joined eps. Being a sahm has its advantages, many of which I miss. One of them is being able to write when the mood strikes. The other is having time to myself when the kids are at school. I miss quiet time…. anyone have some to spare?

5. Is your house a mess?

And what exactly does my messy house have to do with eps? I’ve always been domestically challenged. Actually, my house is getting slightly more organized and much less messy since I’ve started to let go of some of the “memories” and such that I’ve been dragging around forever. Who knew memories could drag a person down so much? Now that I keep them in my head instead of in a physical container, things are much better and happier around here. Flylady helped, but who has time for cleaning when they’re trying to soak up every freaking moment of sunshine before the snow flies. (It’s August, I can feel it getting closer now, hour-by-hour…. I freaking hate winter…)

6. Have you developed PC spread? (your rear end is now hanging over the sides of your chair)

No, I have gained weight, but that is due partially to when I quit smoking two and a half years ago, then lost some of that, only to start gaining it back when I hurt my knee almost three months ago. I think I’m destined to be slightly overweight….sigh….but I’m joining the gym next month, physio and doctor permitting, and hope to lose some of this weight.

7. If you haven't quit your job, do you find yourself pretending to be working, but you are really reading and writing epinions?

I’d never get away with writing ep’s at work. The school division keeps track of everything you do, and I like my job too much to risk it.

8. Do you see signs that your spouse/boyfriend/girlfriend/roommate has been there but you haven't really talked to them lately?

It’s always been like that lol! My husband’s a long distance truck driver, gone for a week or two or three, back for a day or two or three. We are trying harder to squeeze in some time together, but it’s difficult when we really do have our separate lives, me with the family, and him on the road. But it is getting better; maybe I’ll keep him!

9. Are TV dinners what's on the menu again tonight?

Ummm, no, today I have enough time to cook a real meal, its only soccer practice, and no appointments during the day. Ep’s never regulated our menu plan, life, soccer, bowling, and summer controls what we eat. I have to start getting into the habit of precooking and freezing meals for soccer days. Now that SoccerGirl plays soccer every month of the year, taking up at least 3 nights a week, and with me back at work (hopefully soon!) it is getting harder and harder to have enough time to cook. I think maybe my son, (who used to be LittleMan but is now quite a bit taller than me!!!), is going to have to learn to do some prep work in order to speed up the cooking process.

10. Do you even get dressed anymore?

Isn’t a bathing suit getting dressed? ROFL!

Whew! That took a lot out of me! I better go rest, outside in my bathing suit by the pool in the sun…….

Thanks for reading!

Bev
