I called Verizon FIOS Customer Service because Verizon was charging me for what was supposed to be a "Free" 6-month movie package promotion for signing up.
I spoke with "Brian U." From the very beginning, he obviously had a chip on his shoulder about something, and I have no idea why. I explained the situation to him about being charged for the free promotion, and how I would need a credit to my account. He denied that I was supposed have the promotion. When I told him I could give him names and an order # from when I signed up, he cut me off mid-sentence and said "Maybe you had a 3 month promotion." When I tried to explain to him (there was an echo on the phone) what happened when I signed up, he snorted, "Don't you yell at me." Now, I was clearly not yelling. So this surprised the heck out of me. He then said, in a very patronizing tone, "Do you want me to look up your promotion or NOT?"
I paused for a while, wondering what I had gotten myself into here with this person, and said, "Yes, of course."
A few moments later Brian U. was back on the line. He abruptly informed me I'd get a credit. I asked him about what kind of promotion was on the account, because I was confused, and he didn't even give the amount of the credit. He said, rather blithely, "I didn't even check."
It was like he thought there was some kind of power struggle going on, rather than me just wanting to know the status of my account. It was truly bizarre! Mind games! I do not need this after a long day of work and just trying to figure my bills out.
So I asked him for his name, so I could document the credit, and who was issuing it. Maybe he thought I was going to complain about him (which I knew would be futile with Verizon anyway), because he then became even weirder.
He gave his name as "Brian U." And when I asked for his employee number and he said. "I'm NOT giving you my last name."
I said, "Okay, well I didn't ask for your last name."

He hung up on me!
I had to call back and speak with someone else to make sure he even credited my account. Talk about hating your job!
