I wanted a Bluetooth mouse to free up a USB port on my Windows XP Pro laptop and also to avoid having an extra cable that was cluttering up my desk.  I compared this Microsoft Bluetooth Notebook Mouse 5000 to others like Logitech but the Microsoft mouse was lower priced than most other Bluetooth mice.

I choose to go with Bluetooth interface over non-Bluetooth wireless because I have other devices like a microphone and my smartphone that I connect through Bluetooth.

It functions nearly perfectly.  Left, right buttons scroll wheel.  There is a thumb button, but the documentation does not indicate how it should be used.  There were no drivers for it so in the Windows configuration there is also no indication of how to set the function for it.

It is a little smaller than most wired mice I have used.  It was a little odd feeling at first, but after about 2 months of use it feels fine.  Occassionally when I go back to using a wired mouse, it takes some getting used to with the bigger mice.

I like the fact that it has a hardware power button.  However I have not used it yet.  I just allow the mouse to go into sleep mode.  I noticed that when I power up the computer, the mouse does take only about 3 seconds to power up and be recognized by the computer.  After 2 months of use during business hours, I am still using the original batteries.

They initial pairing process was pretty easy.  I have a bluetooth USB interface and it paired without any issues.

The only very minor problem I had is that the mouse wheel button is very sensitive.  I still occassional find myself pushing it accidentally.
