Great value, mileage!

Product Rating: 4.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Gas mileage, initial cost, reliability, zero first day defects, ride, comfort, room for class.
Cons: Automatic transmission shifts to 4th gear at too slow a speed, causing a rumble.
The Bottom Line: Strongly recommend this car to anyone who is looking for a compact/midsize vehicle that is easy on the budget and easy on the fuel consumption.  A great value.

We bought our '07 Hyundai Elantra just over a year ago.  It was replacing a full sized pickup with intent of getting better mileage because we no longer needed the pickup for hauling.  The mileage we get is a bit lower than rated mileage (not unusual).  We also didn't want to spend more than we needed to for basic transportation, and this is just about the cheapest model for this class.  It is well equiped with power windows, doors, trunk, and has very nice creature comfort amenities. By and large, it fits the bill perfectly, and we are very happy with it.  It has required no warranty repairs.  We use it mostly for in-town driving on city streets, but make a 200+ mile trip every month or so to visit relatives.  It performs well in both settings.  It's our first Hyundai.  The only problem we've had is that it shifts into 4th gear at too low a speed when traveling in town, thus it makes a rumbling sound between 35 and 40.  This was checked out by dealer and found to be normal operation.  It's a minor irritation, and sometimes we shift it into third when driving in slow speed area to avoid this.  Our particular model came with an XM radio installed with free service for 3 months.  This is a good service, but as we don't spend a lot of time in the car, we didn't deem it worth the extra money to subscribe.  After a few tries, XM offered the service for half the original price.  The radio/CD player sounds great plus it has an input for your MP3 player.
