Pros:Speed, Resolution, Face Recognition and even Red-Eye correction, the SD950IS makes it Perfect
Cons:A little Pricey.
The Bottom Line: If you need to print large photos, this camera handles the job. Quality that you would expect from a SLR in a small package.
I've had the SD 950IS for about 8 months and love it. I am a Canon fan, so I probably have some bias, but I tried an EOS SLR REBEL and it worked great. When I used it for photos while at soccer games or on a hike, it produced some awesome pictures. The problem was, it was too big for the way I wanted to take pictures.
I purchased the SD 950IS before we took a vacation so that I could keep it with me and take high quality pictures. Just a little larger than my cell phone, it was always available. Between the speed, auto focus and face recognition, it was perfect.
I always take pictures in the largest possible format, figuring I can take a good picture and print it at 13 x 19 on my printer if I really love it. The 12M pixels allowed the enlargement and kept the clarity.
Colors were just what I wanted, and when printed, they were spot on. I used Photo Stitch to take a long landscape picture of the ski slope and when assembled in the program, it produced a unique 36" picture. Great!
Last, while inside at dinners during our trip, some of the pictures had red-eye. On my old camera, I had to hook it up to a PC and use software to clean it up. The SD 950IS has a mode in the camera where the camera cleans up the red eye. This was a surprise because when I am away from home like this, I use a compact photo printer to print postcards and I sent the postcards to friends without any sign of red eye.
I love the camera and would recommend it to anyone.
