Also about fed up with Discount Tire (Reply to this comment)
by paman
I'm on my way back to the Discount Tire at 410 and Marbach in San Antonio because yesterday they left off a lug nut cover on my 2003 Impala. It may not be a big deal to them, but the cover would cost $30-40 to replace, and it is VERY noticable that it is missing. So this means I have to go to the store twice for something that should only require one trip.
And, they are now charging $10 per tire for 'lifetime' wheel balancing, when they used to include that with the replacement certificate. That means that lifetime (for the life of the tire) balancing AND a free replacement guarantee will now cost you up to $25 per tire, while Wal-Mart and Sams Club does the same thing for less than $10 per tire.
So, Shredgirl, it looks like greed is meeting incompetence and they are becoming good friends.

Re: Not Relevant (Reply to this comment)

Well, it is relevant if you want the public to read your story of this shop's incompetence. Since your review has an overall rating of "Somewhat Helpful," it will not be shown to the general public. Only Epinions members will be able to find it. You can check this by logging out of Epinions and trying to find this review... you won't be able to. Only reviews rated "Helpful" and higher are shown to the public.
To get the other Advisor and me to improve our ratings, you will need to add more opinions along the lines I suggest. You may not think it's relevant but we do, and practically no one will see your complaint until we improve our ratings.
I am not automatically notified when you write a comment or update a review. If you do update this review (or leave a comment you want me to see), please let me know by sending an e-mail with the URL to your review. I just happened to stumble across this and this review will probably scroll off my radar in another day or so. Sending an e-mail will get prompt attention.
Let me know (by e-mail) if you have any questions.

Not Relevant (Reply to this comment)
by shredgirl
I really don't think it's funny
that I mentioned people only review stuff when they have something to complain about because it's a fact, the majority of people do. I happen to be more balanced in the sense that I like to share my experiences with others, good or bad.
You are entitled to your opinion, however I do not feel the information you suggested I put in my review is relevant to the situation.
The bottom line here is incompetence. They did not put enough air in my front passenger tire. Come to find out, the tire is ok, it just only had 20 lbs of air pressure.
No, I don't feel I was treated differently because I'm a woman. The shop itself is fine, the sales people were nice enough. This is not a case of discrimination, it's a case of incompetence.
I'm tired of spending my money that I work very hard for to get services performed by incompetent individuals.

Bad experience (Reply to this comment)
by pvreditor, in Cars & Motorsports
Funny that you mentioned in your Santa Fe review that people only write reviews when they have a bad experience... and here you are. This review would be a lot better with a more balanced approach. You could still leave in your lousy experience but give us more objective information about this shop. For example, where is this store located? How big is it? What are its hours? What's your opinion of its tire selection? Was your tire in stock? What's your opinion of each part of the transaction? Was the sales guy polite (if not competent)? Did the shop guys seem to know what they were doing? Did you feel that you were treated differently because you are a woman?
I buy tires on the Internet from The Tire Rack, which I highly recommend. In my experience, The Tire Rack is far less expensive than tire dealers such as Discount Tire. Most corner garages will be happy to mount and balance tires... I get mine done at Costco.
If you update this review with more information about your experience, please let me know by e-mail with the link (URL) and I will re-rate.

Discount has been good for me so far (Reply to this comment)
by tgeen
Sorry to hear about the bad time you had at Discount Tire. Personally, nothing like that has ever happened to me there. Like you, I have been very frustrated by long waits at peak times, but this is probably because DT is such a popular place. I also wish they had more tires to choose from in my size. And I really wish they were open on Sundays, too.
The main reason I have stayed with DT over the years is that their standard road warranty and hazard/lifetime balancing & rotation has saved me a bunch of money in the long run. I have at least two or three nail holes to patch every year, which they do at no extra charge. And when I hit a chunk of metal on my morning commute one day and shredded a tire, they only charged me the prorated rate for the replacement, which I was not expecting (saved me $50 right there). They do cost a little more than the online stores, but after factoring in mounting, balancing, and lifetime routine servicing, DT usually comes out ahead. Of course, if you are really unhappy with the service, none of that would matter. I have always found the staff to be very busy, but also very courteous once I get to the head of the line.
