I'm an online shopping addict. I love shopping online for almost everything. It takes a lot to impress me as far as online-merchants go -- ease of use, pricing, shipping charges, return policy..OldNavy.com impressed me, but it also re-inforced my weariness to go shopping for apparel online.
Their website is extremely easy to use. The main page (www.oldnavy.com) has, at the top, a toolbar you use to navigate the site (womens, mens, baby...) and the middle has the current deal going (free shipping, 10% off, etc).
Once you click on your desired departmemt (for me, it was "womens"), you're taken to a new page. The new page has, in the center, featured items, and on the left it has a menu filled with all your options - denim, sleepwear, accessories, outerwear, bathing suits, active, etc. You simply click on where you want to go, and you navigate the site this way. Once you click on a specific section (let's say, denim) you're taken to another part of the site. Here, you see (on the left) another menu with all the different choices in denim, written in text and you may click on them. In the main page, you see pictures of the specific items, and you can browse the pages, looking at the pictures, deciding what to buy.
After you click on a specific item, either by looking at the graphics or clicking a text link on the left, you're taken to the item page. Here, it has the price, a larger picture, colour choices (if applicable) and a product description. You choose to add to cart, select size, and voila! You've added the item to your cart. You can either choose to check out now, or continue shopping.
Their prices aren't too bad, either. It's basically the same as the normal Old Navy stores. A lot of the time they have deals going, and you really should watch the site and take advantage of the deals whenever possible.
Their shipping charges were a bit steep, for me. But it's good if you're buying a lot, but bad if you're only buying one or two things. Their shipping time was great, it didn't take long at all for me to receive my order!
Their return policy is the best thing about the website. If something doesn't fit, is damaged, doesn't look good, or whatever reason, you may return it to an actual Old Navy store! This was great, because if you're like me, you've dealth with other online-merchant's return policys in the past. Either there are no returns, or you must pay for S&H to get it there, and then S&H to have it returned if you wanted an exchange. This is great, and I took advantage of it. A shirt I bought just didn't look good, so I took it to a store, and got it exchanged for something.
A drawback is that you can't try the clothes on, so you won't know until they get here if they fit or not. It's difficult, though, with any merchant, when you buy clothing online. Their skirts seem to be a cute a little bigger than their jeans, so if you buy a size 12 in a skirt and a size 12 in jeans, you will probably find yourself having to wear a belt with the skirt. This problem can be avoided if you shop in-store.
It's not a big deal, because if they don't fit you can just return them to a store, but you wasted money for shipping. I say this is risky, because I don't like having to waste money for shipping! It's also risky for one other reason -- sometimes the order may not arrive when it was planned to. It's not a big deal if you aren't needing the clothes for a special occasion, but if you're ordering apparel so you can go to a party in two weeks, or a picnic, or anything, you just have to hope that it gets here on time (as compared to a store where you walk in, out, and you have the clothes automatically).
