Pros:Sanaa Lathan's acting.
Cons:Sanaa Lathan's character.
The Bottom Line: I really enjoyed this movie a lot.

If you are ever interested in watching a good movie, why not sit down and enjoy Tyler Perry's The family that Preys. It has a really good cast. The storyline is very interesting. It reminded me a lot of a soap opera. The movie is filled with drama, comedy and emotion. In the background of each scene, I could hear good music that related to the scene helping the scenes to flow gracefully. The family that Preys has a PG-13 rating and has a running time on 1 hour and 15 minutes.

I like Tyler Perry films because it always has some kind of message behind it. You don't just get a good film, you learn something. The story has a storyline about family, love, hurt, pain and rising up to the next level, that I could see happening in real life. Wedged within it's time frame is a modern day story of the Good Samaritan.

The story focuses on 2 families, the Pratts and the Cartwights. The head of the Pratt clan is Alice (Academy Award®-nominee Alfre Woodard), a woman with 2 daughters who walks around with a lot of faith. She runs a diner named A Bible and A Prayer Diner and is in her church choir. The movie begins with the wedding of her daughter Andrea (Sanaa Lathan), a woman with an ego problem who is bitter beyond understanding. She is very ungrateful yet still seems to find love flowing freely from her husband Chris (Rockmond Rockport), a former military officer and current construction worker with big dreams. While she might gain love from her husband and son, she seems to really vex her sister Pam (Taraji B. Henson), who is tired of the ungratefulness that Andrea dishes out to them. Tyler Perry plays Pam's husband.

The Cartwrights is run by Alice's long time friend Charlotte Cartwright (Academy Award®-winner Kathy Bates). She heads a company and works side by side with her son William (Cole Hauser). She is also a woman who loves to enjoy life, or at least with the time she has left facing a major disease. William holds a bitter attitude because instead of his mother appointing him to the chair of COO, she has hired Abigail Dexter (Robin Givens). He is very rude to his mother and to his wife Jillian (Kadee Strickland) whom he has been cheating on, like it was the thing to do.

While the story is entitled The family that Preys, the story also shows the power of prayer. Alice is a genuine person and illustrates human kindness and fellow feeling just like Jesus preached about in Luke 10:25-37, the parable of the good Samaritan. Andrea is a woman who is spiritually sick. She builds her life on hurt and pain and makes a lot of foolish decisions in her life. She doesn't repsect her family at all. She makes a whole lot of money, but when way more money than she is supposed to have is found in her bank account, her husband has questions.

I love the plot of the movie. The story unfolds and just keeps running strong and never seems to lose my interest. I love the idea of experiencing life and seeing the beauty of it all. I have seen people walk into my job with anger on their faces as opposed to a pleasant good morning smile and watching this movie makes me wonder if they would just get up and thank God for the day that he made, maybe the attitude would be different. That is exactly what Alfre Woodard represented in this movie. She was the kind and gentle and encouraging person. She had that Godly attitude and she was the one who can sway anyone to walk in the light, because she was doing it and sharing his good news, faithfully.

I found myself laughing at some scenes, angry at others and then simply intrigued by the acting. Sanaa Lathan really had the attitude down. She just seemed so natural. I really like this movie and I encourage everyone who has not yet seen it to check it out. This is a really good movie.
