Hi Brian,
We are coming to realize that things will never be the same...here in Baton Rouge as well as cities hit by the storm and devastated.
Thanks for your concern.

Karen,
I'm glad you are safe and escaped most of the damage of the storm. I live in Houston and watched in horror as everything unfolded. We tried donating clothes but were told they had everything they needed. We donated to the american red cross to help out with what we could spare.
We went to the UH-Oregon State football game and walked out to see the line of buses bringing all the evacuees to the reliant astrodome. It was a really weird, and scary as some evacuees were pushing police, experience.
I hope things return to normal for you soon.

Dave,
We have a shelter in place for the animals and also a list of needed items and/or a place to send donations. Here's the link:

Great, Jo! I'm glad you were able to help!
We are fine, just adjusting to our city doubling in size overnight! I'm working from home today, we had a disturbance downtown at the shelter here. This is all like a horror movie!

...let us know if there are any pet shelters to donate to. It's a lower concern right now, and I'm trying not to think about all the pets left behind :( -Dave

Hi Carol,
You have to understand that some things you are hearing are remnants of rumors. For instance, the prison riot. That was a rumor. New one this morning was 1,000 prisoners excaped. Fact was they were on the bridge with deputies boarding buses to be transported to other prisons.
Yes, some were on bridges for hours waiting. The main transportation is by boat. It is taking time to rescue people and they are still bringing them out alive. We should all be thankful for that!
Keep LA, MS and AL people in your prayers. We have a long road ahead cleaning this mess up.

how things are close up and personal. I hear Shepard Smith talking about folks who are on an Interstate bridge. They have been there a couple of days, trying to stay above the water level. I see folks who were given shampoo, etc. BUT WHAT WATER WILL THEY USE TO WASH THEIR HAIR????
Shepard says these folks have no directions what direction to walk for help. Can't a helicopter with a loudspeaker announce to these folks what direction to walk for assistance? Can't they, or an industrial sized helicopter bring in water supplies? Food?? Since the residents were without electricity directly following the storm and had no way of knowing about the impending flood, couldn't a squad car, helicopter, etc. have given these folks warning?? I'm tempted to contact an agency somewhere there and offer to pay for $XX for water to be trucked in, but how do I know it will actually get there, or be able to get there?
Thanks for listening.

tp send some money even though this storm has cost me thousands of dollars in damage to my yard, all the food I had to replace in my freezer and refrigerater and who knows what else before we are done with minor repairs not covered by our home owners policy due to our large deductible after Hurricane Andrew..
One thing you will appreciate, one of my bird feeders was destroyed, litterly torn apart..Had to go out to buy another one today since the birds seem to have multiplied in my yard after the storm passed...
