I am sorry "Transformers the Movie" is not an Anime. I don't know why people keep thinking it is. The original idea was based off of Japanese toys when one of the members of Hasbro was in Japan. Hasbro is a U.S. company. They made the cartoon to sell the toys. They then made the movie to kill off the old line of toys and make way for the new line. Of course at the time they did realized what they had until they made this movie.

It was not made in Japan of by Japanese people. So please take it off the list of Anime and put something that is an actual anime.

I personally liked Nausicaa better than Princess Mononoke, but Spirited Away was Miazaki's best.

I also liked Grave of the Fireflies; I haven't seen Akira (I just got it from netflix), but as of yet I feel "Grave..." is the best anime I have seen.

Have you ever seen Future Boy Conan? I saw it in Italian language when I was a kid in Italy. It's pretty simplistic compared to Miazaki's later works but I loved the series as a whole.

I've always wondered... (Reply to this comment)

...what the requirements were for a film to be considerd anime beyond coming out of Japan and being a cartoon.

When it comes to comparing anime to classic Disney cartoon movies (e.g. Fantasia, Snow White, Cinderella) and classic Warner Brothers Looneytunes, what do you see as the pluses and minuses of each style.

Personally, I'm more of a fan of the old school of cartooning most of the time.

Kudos!

I've seen most of these movies, and I agree that the ones I've seen are some of the best anime movies of all time (if you've seen my review of "Perfect Blue", you'll know how high I regard that movie). The only ones I havent seen are "Street Fighter 2", "Transformers: The Movie" and "Ninja Scroll". I've been wanting to see the latter for a while now though, but I've been a little reluctant to buy it cause of what I've heard about it (that and I'm totally broke). Anyway, dope list man!

Peace

I would have to agree with you on it being tough to review them singularly. :)

Very nice job, Ryan....I've always found anime a little difficult to review, so I tend to shy away from it myself. Very cool and thorough here...good job! :)
