Patti,

It's really a sad situation...the shelters (dog pounds) are even full. People are dropping off there and some of these are kill shelters. :(

Thanks for reading and commenting.

is trying to adopt one of the birds that were abandoned by the owners once they couldn't care for them following the hurricane. We have to learn again how to open our hearts and not begrudge what another person has - I am sure the decision to leave those pets was heart-wrenching for all of them.

Thanks, Patty. We have a shelter on campus and I'm going to see if they need help on my lunch hour this week.

Take care,

For this information. As worried about the people affected by Katrina, I also worry about the poor animals left behind.

I will definitely donate to help them and wish I could do more.

I know Daquen. It's very sad. I hope the United States never has another disaster to this magnitude again.

Last night while at a Chinese restaurant bar, I watched the local news at eleven o'clock.

Coverage of the destroyed areas were shown again as usual. Only this time, in addition to the usual comments and anguish displayed by the adults and the mayor of New Orleans, at least a couple of small children spoke out & lashed out at the federal gov't for not getting them help fast enough.

A boy & a girl lashed out saying: "We need help down here! We need help!! It's horrible here" I saw that and lost it all, so badly that I broke down crying out loud! I just couldn't fight back the tears and let go. Those children touched my heart in a way that no one else could other than the adults there begging dearly for help.

I yelled out to everyone there, "Those poor kids! There just babies and they can't get the help they need!!!" Why aren't they getting any help there?! I was so upset over that that I lost it all!

It is a funny thing how quickly humans forget about animals and the fact that they also suffer.

While they might not have the same mental capacity as us, they still inhabit this wonderfull earth with us.

I liked reading this piece, serves as a reminder that even our fellow animals need help in stressing times.

Looking up to you,

ZeN

I'm glad you mentioned the animals affected by this tragedy. I have been mourning the loss of people's pets and all the strays that were wiped out by the storm. Thanks for this timely posting. Sheila
