Thanks for the comments. I hope lessons have been learned and the slow response of Federal Agencies (and others) is never ever repeated.

Nice poem with an excellent point. I honestly can't believe a few of the horrible things that I've seen or heard people say about their fellow US citizens who have lost their homes and in some cases their lives. Thankfully, most people I have run across have your perspective...

Striking Images, (Reply to this comment)

Chris: I believe that the official term is "refugees," in the standard manual of the Office of Homeland Security (begins to sound like a Monty Python joke, does it not?) . . . or is it in FEMA's?
Of course, the rest of the manual was not followed . . . .
Anyway, the references to "refugees" may fit in with the fact that, in his visits lately, Our President refers repeatedly to the Gulf States and New Orleans, using the phrase, "this part of the World," as if the land and peoples were not part of his United States.
Well done, Chris.

...with a photographic "paintbrush" in your descriptions, and photographs tell no lies!!!
I have places at a couple of other sites I write for where I'm trying to bring what has happened together, and I'll be including live links to your poem there!
Blessings!

Thanks Lisa, Zen.
I got you Zen. They aren't statistics or foreigners... THEY are US and our neighbors.
Thanks for the reads and comments.
Give if you can to the Katrina efforts.

I liked your poem because it highlights how the suffering is our neighbors. And that it is very real.
Im not sure if im making any sence..
All I mean to say is that you did a very good job.
