Katrina....Rage and Dismay: Where Was Bush?

The Bottom Line To this reviewer, Bush is the worst president our country has ever seen

One week after the worst natural disaster to ever hit the United States took place, we are all in a state of shock and dismay. Many would say this whole event is so surreal one can hardly believe it, but I ask the question is it surreal it actually happened, is it surreal major precautions were not followed or worst of all, is it surreal our federal government does not really care about its own people to conduct the nation’s biggest and speediest rescue operation it has ever seen?

The media does have tendencies to manipulate the truth to get ratings, we all know that, but the fact of the matter remains, our government is under huge scrutiny now more than ever for waiting so long to deploy assistance to tens of thousands of human being on its own soil. We saw them on top of flooded roofs in the homes, we saw then walking across steaming, bacteria laden waters to get to safety, we saw them floating and rotting on the streets of historic New Orleans, and what is the response? Wait nearly an entire week to come up with a plan to rescue them.

With the death toll estimated to top 10,000 and the damage exceeding $26 Billion in insurance claims, one would think it would be a top priority in this nation, however we are still full force in Iraq fighting a non-existing war against an enemy we cannot see. Why is Bush so hell-bent on rebuilding a country a half a globe away instead of saving its own. Could it be he doesn’t care for the people who don’t contribute as much financially to the country as say the middle eastern oil moguls? Is this strictly a money issue?

Ned Beatty said it best on the movie Network: There are no people, there are only corporations, and we are experiencing it now, seems that Bush sees the dollar signs and not the cries of the people who are dying right before his own eyes, and that my friends is the most cowardly, sickening person one could ever meet. First, 9/11 and his response (which has still failed to destroy the prime target, Bin Laden) and now this despicable act of selfishness.

I know people will disagree with my opinion on this and some will probably say the opposite, but this is a point of view of a bystander who has the emotional capacity to identify with disaster and how it affects people, and my heart goes out to all those people who suffered greatly in this ordeal.
