alexdg1's 20 Fave Fab Four Songs Write-Off
Sep 06 '05 (Updated Nov 23 '05)
The Bottom Line Hey, Beatlemaniacs. You've seen my list, you know the rules. Join my 20 Fave Fab Four W/O and share your thoughts with the world!
Although my taste in music tends to go more toward the classical end of the spectrum, I do like a little bit of everything. Oh, all right, there are genres, such as hip-hop and anything that smacks of disco), that I don't like, but I do like some pop/rock acts, including Elton John, Billy Joel, Carly Simon, many doo-wop and early rock 'n' roll groups (The Platters, Del Shannon, Richie Valens, Bobby Darin), and even folk/country singers like John Denver and Johnny Cash.
But if you asked me which rock group I like best, I'd have to say with heartfelt conviction: The Beatles.
The Fab Four.
The Lads From Liverpool.
John, Paul, George, and Ringo.
Musicians, innovators, multi-media mavens, spiritual explorers, guys who (along with the Rolling Stones) led the "British invasion" of the 1960s and helped America get over the heartache of losing a young and dynamic President to an assasin's bullets. Four talented men who helped take rock 'n' roll, blues, and even Indian musical forms and, with the vision of their first (and doomed) manager Brian Epstein and inventive producer George Martin, gave the world such seminal albums as 1967's Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band and 1970's Let It Be..
Now, if asked to choose a batch of 20 Fave Fab Four songs (sort of like what I'm asking you to do), I'd have to think about it for a while; the "lads" wrote and performed so many outstanding songs that it's not easy to select just 20 of them.. And, of course, forget about listing them in order of ranking one over the others; that's like asking a parent to choose a favorite child!
Here, in roughly chronological order, are my Top 20 Beatles songs:
1. From Me to You
2. She Loves You
3. And I Love Her
4. Yesterday
5. Nowhere Man
6. You've Got to Hide Your Love Away
7. Norwegian Wood (This Bird Has Flown)
8. Michelle
9. In My Life
10. Eleanor Rigby
11. Strawberry Fields Forever
12. Penny Lane
13. Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds
14. A Day in the Life
15. Hello, Goodbye
16. The Fool on the Hill
17. Hey Jude
18. Something
19. The Long and Winding Road
20. Let It Be
