The Bottom Line I lost 88 pounds by eating 5 three-course meals a day -- breakfast, lunch, supper, midnight snack and my favorite, a double helping special at 4.00 am.

I told her I was game, so she shot me.... My entry to the Diet & Exercise Write-Off

* * *

This is my entry to the Diet & Exercise Write-Off hosted by romasuave.

1. What is your current Weight? (optional)

210 lbs.

2. What is your goal weight, or how many pounds do you want to lose?

180 lbs. (30 lbs.)

3. Are you currently on a diet regimen? If so which one?

I am mostly vegetarian now, and I am trying to eat mainly certified organic food. At this time of year, a lot of my food comes from the garden.

4. When did you begin your current plan and how's it going so far?

I started after watching Supersize Me scared me out of Wendys.

5. What other diets (if any) have you tried in the past? What were the results?

I don't believe in diets. I think that they encourage rapid weight loss, and almost equally-rapid weight gain. Such boomerang changes are bad for your heart. Only lifestyle change can produce lasting results.

6. Do you include exercise with your diet? If so what activities or workouts are you performing?

More exercise is what I really need. Gardening and woodworking keep me in decent shape, but they are not enough to shed the pounds.

7. What was your most dramatic weight loss?

When I was 27, I dropped my weight 44 percent to 112 pounds by eating a steady diet of 5 three-course meals a day -- breakfast, lunch, supper, midnight snack and my favorite, a double helping special at 4.00 am. I lost 5 lbs a day. It was great.

Then, when my undiagnosed overactive thyroid finally triggered a fully fledged thyroid storm and sent me into a coma, those pounds really flew off.

8. Have you ever gained back the weight after a diet? If so why?

Eventually, I gained back most of the weight that I lost. I credit this mainly to not dying. Tasty radio-active iodine shakes helped. Chemo is such fun.

This incident is still worth a few laughs. Whenever new doctors see my medical records, they get awed expressions on their faces and mutter, "You survived a thyroid storm?" They sound like a kid who has just seen Santa. I guess it was a close shave. On reflection, perhaps I should have been more worried at the time.

* Ironically, if I had not been 20 pounds overweight when I got sick, I would have died. Size does matter.

9. Out of the following: Neck, arms, legs, calves, abs, shoulders, back, chest...which do you feel is most defined?

My stomach, yes definitely my stomach. Wait... Was that on the list?

10. Which area from the above mentioned do you feel needs the most work?

See the answer to 9 above.

11. What is your impression of the "real women" ads you see on billboards advertising skin care products (women in white bras and underwear posing and smiling)?

Don't real women look like Nicole Kidman, Natalie Portman and Linda Hamilton too?

Joking aside, I have always found a lady's wit and wisdom to be her most attractive features. Kindness and compassion are right up there as well, while a good sense of humor is essential for survival around me. I also like a lass that can cook, but that's probably why I am so... er... manly.

In the spirit of Halloween which is not too far away, I have installed some trick or treat links to some of my other reviews. Some are fairly easy to guess the destination but others may amuse you. Enjoy.

If you only have time for one, follow the for your heart link. It's important.
